Café Restaurant du Marché — Restaurant in Aigle

Currently sitting at the table. We’ve been here for over an hour and haven’t received any food (we only ordered classic fondue for 2 people). When we arrived it was busy, but they gave us a table within a reasonable amount of time. However, it became very clear how understaffed they are as the night progressed. I actually had to go and get our menus because the waiter who sat us didn’t give us menus, then he came 10 minutes later with some menus (which we no longer needed).

We put our order in a few minutes after that, just cheese fondue for 2 people and a lemonade and a tonic water. Several minutes later, the waiter set the fondue stand on our table then left again. We were wondering where our drinks were but assumed he’d be back soon with them. He must have forgotten because we didn’t receive our drinks for ~30 minutes after ordering, after I made eye contact with the waiter...

Update: the couple sitting next to us just got these cool steaks that are sizzling on fancy rocks. Looks delicious. They were here before us... not sure how long. Their food smells good (I’m so hungry please bring ours next)!

While I was writing this, we just got the bread for our fondue (only a small basket for 2 people, and we are absolutely Starving by this point - good thing extra bread is free)...

Update 2: there’s a kebab place 4 minutes away that we’re considering going to because we are Starving and it’s been 70 minutes. If the fondue isn’t out in 5 minutes, we’re leaving and getting kebabs.

Update 3: finally our fondue is out. ~75 minutes since coming into the restaurant. It was good but not outstanding. Lots of wine in it (maybe they saw how irritated I am and poured the whole bottle in...). Too much wine for my taste, but we were just happy to be stuffing our faces with cheesy bread.

If my French was better I would have asked for a discount because of how long it took for our food to come. Sure, the restaurant was busy but they didn’t indicate that it would take this long to get our food. The waiter was friendly and apologetic but the service was extremely slow and we felt forgotten about. We were hungry when we entered and about to leave when they finally brought our food out. Am I glad we didn’t leave? Eh. If you get the hot rock with steak maybe it’s worth it. Otherwise, save yourself and hour and...

Un restaurant superbe avec une ambiance chaleureuse et une cuisine exquise ! Nous avons savouré une fondue au fromage accompagnée de pommes de terre et de charcuterie, un vrai délice !
