Update from 26Apr2024 (revisiting the rating) : Tried chicken meal combo for lunch with coke. 35 CHF (including round off) Every dish (chicken gravy, chicken 65, sambhar, rasam, kootu, potato fry, payasam, chapathi, Keeri) in my combo tasted really good Service was awesome. They improved a lot. They remembered me from last time when I mentioned not satisfied, so enquired did we improve mam. (+)(-) No change in price
May be if I need to say something negative -Rice was not enough for all gravy. May be they need to balance rice with gravy. I know I can buy another bowl of rice. Though I was good with quantity didn't want to buy. But didn't want to waste gravy.
Update from 23Dec2023: Tried Anjappar restaurant on the first day of opening at Basel (23Dec23) for dinner around 18:30
Spent around 150 for 3 adults and one kid.
Worst experience 😭
Meat was not cooked properly. Blood was oozing out of chicken lollipop. My kid mentioned he will not eat any meat after that.
-Taste was also not great. I suppose chicken lollipop was a frozen meat from the local shop, kept in the oven and served. No salt, no taste, as said blood oozing out. Lamb biryani was with zero salt. I can manage less salt, but no missing any ingredient. Like a newbie or teen starting to cook. Egg gravy also with less salt. Only my friends tried it. Finally request for salt and we started managing the recipes.
Service was also not so great. Ordered a bottle of mineral water. They brought a bottle with the cap opened. I said this could even be tap filled one. Can you please learn the European table etiquette to open a bottle in front of the customer after asking can I open it please. Cutlery was provided only after requesting 5 times. Only spoon. After repeated asking 2 times received fork after repeated asking 5 times received knife. If it was crowded, can understand. But there were only 2 tables occupied. One family already finished dinner and we were at serving. No one else. Bring and serve everything in a tray or saucer for soup or dishes. Brought it in an unhygienic style of holding on the rim of the bowl with fingers.
Price is not nominal. As what can be expected in Switzerland. Costlier. But for this quality of food, I'm not ready to pay this hefty.
No twint available. Might be since day 1 can accept this.
My friends who tried Anjappar for the first time in their life had real bad experiences and said why this hype for this. I said this is not authentic Anjappar style. Try it after a year if they survive in this place.
Mango Lassi tasted good. As they cannot make any mistakes :)
Soup was okieish (kozanbu melagu rasam soup for 10 CHF was fine)
Parking is easier as Parkhaus badischer Bahnhof is just 50-100mts away. But parking is not cheaper.
After trying Anjappar at various locations (overall in many places in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry India, NJ USA, London UK, ....) I would expect them to grow and learn well to survive in Basel...
Read moreWe visited this Indian restaurant today on Mother’s Day with a large group, and unfortunately, it was a big disappointment. Everyone received their meals at completely different times, and the food itself was not good. Even worse, we had to wait far too long before anything was served. The service was very chaotic – some people who ordered later received their food before others, and they even forgot two of our orders entirely. On top of that, we were given dirty glasses and had to ask for replacements. The staff were friendly but clearly understaffed. Hygiene was also well below an acceptable standard, and the overall atmosphere was not inviting.
Considering the poor food quality and the disorganized service, the prices were high for the quality of food they serve. On a day like Mother’s Day, they need for sure better preparation and more staff on duty.
This experience does not meet the standards, which we would expect from a restaurant in Switzerland. We were very disappointed and will definitely not...
Read moreAnjappar is well known restaurent in south india, tasty food and quality service.
Anjappar in Basel city shop is well located and big enough for the group of people to eat.
Unfortunately the day I went, service was bad. Not enough people to take care of the clients. Service guys was very kind and worked well but they told me, we are not able to take the order Find out the menu and let us know . As we went 18 people.
After we proved the list of food Some of them they don't have. What is the point to ask the client to make a list.
Once we place the order, service was rong table. We need to find out what we ordered.
Please provide some good service management and let to know clients wht you have, that will make your order lost event better quality. Price is bit higher compared to other Indian restaurent.
Fish curry was so bad make. Some briyani items was great 👍
Nice and polite people but need to learn, how to serve in the restaurent.
