We went there for dinner and asked the waiter for recommendations. She suggested the degustation menu, which sounded good. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing and didn’t feel worth the price, not only in terms of quality but how much we got - all of this would be way less expensive if ordered not in "degustation menu". Also what they choose to give us seemed cheap, what we could stuff ourselves with, not try "the best food you serve for degustation" eg tons of nachos, but only one taco per person. I was with a Mexican friend who confirmed that what we had wasn’t great for Mexican cuisine. When I mentioned this politely to the waiter, in good faith to make the service for the future better, she became super defensive, wouldn’t let me finish a sentence, and even asked where I was from, insisting that prices like this are “normal in Switzerland.” Having lived in Bern for nine years, I know that — but usually high prices come with good food and respectful service. The point was not the price, but the way we were treated and what was offered. Her attitude was unnecessarily rude, condescending, and completely out of place in hospitality. The owner later came and kindly asked how much we were willing to pay, which I appreciated, but overall the experience was spoiled by the waiter’s behaviuor and not so high quality food. Also the owner, although tried to solve the situation wouldn't accept the criticism and claimed "that the food was the best quality". Would...
Read moreI’m so sad in giving 3 stars out of 5 to this place. Let’s first speak about the food. The food is great. Some stuff is more texmex but the original Mexican food is actually really good and I overall enjoyed it. I enjoyed also the margarita. So speaking about food, I would gladly review it with a 5. Location is fine. A bit difficult to find since there are no indications of advertisements. Anyway, it looks a bit rustic but overall enjoyable. The problem comes when we talk about the service:
When we sat down, one of the tables lost a screw and fell. Fortunately nothing was on it and no one got injured.
Then, one of us took some sandwiches and they got served half an hour after we finished eating the other stuff (lots of it).
We asked for some other food after the first ordination and they said “we don’t know, it may need lots of time to be prepared since there are other people”. I mean, fine?
Also, it was a work dinner, our company agreed to pay 500 euros for the dinner with the restaurant. 500 is not a few bucks right? Overall the bill was like 472. We asked for another round of margarita which was 41CHF. So the total was 513CHF. We gave a tip of 50CHF but they also wanted the 13CHF that exceeded the agreed amount. Nice way to...
Read moreThanks to the hint of a Mexican friend we decided to give this place a chance and we were not disappointed - au contraire! A pretty authentic experience compared to the rather usual Tex-Mex places surrounding us.
Smiling staff and a very colourful interior made us quickly feel comfortable.
The menu is small and contains, as mentioned on their website, mainly streetfood items. We decided to go with the Molletes, a (please excuse my comparison) bruschetta like starter with melted cheese. The sauces that came along were absolutely delicious. Especially the Salsa Roja with its incredible depth which was perfectly balanced in smokyness, acidity and spicyness. Next we chose the tacos for 2 to get a good overview on their various dishes. Let me make it short: porc - delicious, chicken - super tasty, beef - amazing; in general one could taste immediately the complexity of the prepared dishes with all its spices.
What's to improve: Despite Mezcal is warming you up somewhat - if there's one thing that can be improved then its the heating. It was quite chilly in the restaurant where one could not really take off the jacket.
Anyway we'll be...
