Au Grotto Restaurant - Pizzeria — Restaurant in Martigny

Long story short: a decent place to have a lunch, but your experience may terribly vary based on the language you speak, the the zone you'll be seated in and, idk, the phase of the Mars in the waiter's zodiac sign.

The food: delicious. Both the roast beef and the house specialty (pizza Grotto) were more than just decent.

The location: Central, slightly off the main street. Best of all worlds from my pov.

The setup: a mixed design, somewhat warn, but still matches the provincial theme very well. Napkins and some other disposables on a cheaper side than was expected.

The cleanliness: OKish. Nothing bad to say, just feels a bit sloppy missing a spot or a crumble here and there.

The service: random, inconsistent and sometimes disappointing. Once I had no problem here at all, but when came back the next evening the service was slow, unengaged and even abrupt to the point of being rude. Would consider him having s bad day, but the other table was treated by him with much more professionalism, decency and even warmth. To be honest, I was very unpleasantly surprised with that, and I had a completely different experience, when was dining here with a group of frankophone men - everything was nice, quick, with jokes and warm wishes. But this time I was with multilingual group, which has only German (Tuutsch) and English in common, and the reception was drastically different. Waiter didn't even attempted to recommend anything or upsell drinks.

As one my swiss friends said: he clearly doesn't like us and I don't like him to, so we will do a serviced to everyone, if we simply never come back....

Bonne cuisine mais service déplorable

Nous avons du attendre presque 30min pour qu'on prenne notre commande alors que le serveur passait souvent à côté de nous pour demander aux personnes à la table voisine si tout se passait bien et pour papoter joyeusement avec eux. Malgré Nos appels il faut croire que nous étions invisible et tout cela sans boissons pour patienter. Une fois qu'on capte son attention, serveur très désagréable, froid, sec comme si nous l'agaçions. Au moment de payer rebelote, on doit patienter des heures que monsieur veuillez bien nous encaisser. Nous devons payer séparément la note, chacun avec sa carte, cela à déplu au serveur qui n'a pas manqué de nous le faire comprendre !! Pas un sourire, ton sec, très désagréable. Nous sommes restés patients et courtois très déçu que ça n'ait pas été le cas du personnel ! Malgré tout ça la cuisine était bonne mais vraiment...

Had an excellent salad with an Italian dressing that I loved. The pizza was superb! We ordered a bottle of Merlot but got a different bottle, but it was still fine. Service was good but we had a had a long wait to pay our check. I will definitely go back when I am in...
