Peppino has raised the bar for dining out in Villars since it opened in December 2021. I have eaten there four times since then and it has been consistently outstanding. Let’s start with the food: a very wide range of high quality authentic home made Italian dishes with creativity, variety and complementarity as key notes. Selecting a large range of starters for a group at the table allows for a perfect titillation of eye, palate and the sense of anticipation which such appetisers should generate. The pasta dishes are perfectly sized - neither dainty nor overwhelming - and the pizzas with burrata are sensational. The desserts too are best enjoyed with a selection to be shared. The ice creams are exquisite, with the pistachio and hazelnut expressions standing out as distinctly and appealingly nutty.
There is a fine selection of wines that provide optimal matching experiences. Atmosphere? Plenty! The open plan kitchen adds a bustling urgency and a dash of live drama, and it is immediately apparent that this is a professional and capable team. Service is attentive and informative without being invasive. The decor is simple and uncluttered with distracting tat. It is brightly lit, and this gives it, along with a hive-like sense of activity, an urban feel, spared an industrial overtone by the use of natural light wood in the structural trusses and the tables. If all this sounds too good, let it be said that this is not the ideal venue for a quiet candlelit dinner for two, or for the hard of hearing: on busy nights (and on each visit it was very full) it can be loud; mercifully, however, diners are spared the competition of conversation-crushing (or indeed any) music.
There is no doubt that Peppino has already established both a lively cross-generational vibe and a new standard for other restaurants in Villars to emulate or complement. One senses that this is not just a flash in the pan and that more good...
Read moreWe came here on a Sunday and where briskly told to go away, as reservations where needed. We did notice 10 free tables at the time, so it was dubious. That being said, the pressure for Peppino’s to be above great, is at play. We came back Monday night with proper reservations and where quickly seated. They brought bread, but no plates to dip it with the Olive oil on the table, a simple misshap, as the place was jammin’. I ordered the buffala caprese salad which was enormous. The Buffala was insane good, top marks. The tomatoes where very average, but all in all the ensemble was great. I proceeded with the Lucifero pizza, two cheeses and spicy sausage. It looked really great and was eager to dive into it, but it was pretty average. A noticeable lack of cheese towards the middle of the pie was dissapointing. The spicy sausage was delicious, but I really wanted more cheese. The tomatoe sauce was pretty good, but the pizza lacked some san Marzzano umpf, seasoning and cheese. Maybe it was an off day, because the clams my buddy ordered looked amazing. For my first experience here then, some hits, a few misses. Not top notch, pretty average fare, especially when you have hardcore competition around for...
Read moreThis restaurant is amazing, one of the best in Villars since opening in December 2021. You can get proscuitto di parma freshly cut, homemade pasta and amazing appetizers. The Neapolitan style pizza was very authentic and extremely good. The gelato was so good, thick and creamy, with my favorite flavors being pistachio and hazelnut. Must try the Tiramisù! Best restaurant in town if you want a classy, contemporary and vibrant atmosphere with high quality and authentic food to meet friends for a night out, after work, or after skiing. Incredible waiters and service, they even brought more pistachio ice cream on the house when they saw we...
