Lilienthal — Restaurant in Opfikon

After a long day of sightseeing we found this Italian restaurant near our hotel. We were able to sit right outside next to the quiet street which was really nice. The server was very enthusiastic and helpful but we did get a sense that they do not love having tourists frequent the restaurant especially being a little outside city center. The mushroom risotto and burrata pizza were both very good. The burrata added so much texture and creaminess to the pizza and the mushroom flavor was exploding in the risotto. Knowing that it is uncommon to take leftovers home in Europe, we asked if it was possible since they clearly did take away business. OMG❗️❗️❗️ABSOLUTELY the best. Everything was above and beyond our expectations. First, the fact that the owner came to our table and welcomed us and chatted for a bit was very nice. When the owner takes the time to speak with you, that means he takes pride in his business, and I truly appreciate it. Now for the food. What else can I say other than it was incredible. The presentation, the quality of the food, and the freshness was outstanding. As for the service, both gentlemen who took care of us were extremely polite and were very professional. Busy place as it is an option for lunch break for the companies in the area. However service, quality and prices are below average. Clients are not treated equally: women’s portions are smaller than men’s without asking in advance, our starter salads were tiny while the neighbour table was offered much bigger starter salads with more variety of ingredients and bigger portions as well. A portion of lasagna was at CHF 21, tasted extremely salty, was too small and included no beef at all - just a mix of tomato sauce, onion, carrot and super salty cheese. Disappointing...
