Griechische Taverne — Restaurant in Zurich

Food is for the most part tasty and well made. Sadly the portions are extremely small, especially the appetizers (14.50.- for three tiny zucchini fritters?).

Positives:

Kleftiko: very tasty (but still very small portion, with a tiny bit of potato garnish, for 36.- 😕) Bifteki: tasty and good sized but the garnish again small. Most appetizers are tasty (but small and cost around 15.-) Friendly and reliable service Nice atmosphere, looks like a traditional Greek "Koutouki" without the kitchy clichés one often sees at Greek restaurants abroad.

Negatives:

tiny portions (for the price). Definitely not greek-sized 😛 Gigantes (giant beans appetizer) comes definitely from a tin. Tastes really bad. Gemista: we got one average sized stuffed pepper and one VERY SMALL stuffed tomato. Unacceptable. One chooses the biggest tomatoes on the market for this dish. Only one brand of Greek beer available. Very sad, especially with so many great Greek micro breweries, producing excellent product the last few years Mousaka: good portion but not traditionally made. Griechische Taverne – definitiv einen Besuch wert!

Ich war mittags gemeinsam mit meiner Begleitung in dieser kleinen griechischen Taverne essen – und wir waren rundum begeistert.

Wir haben draußen Platz genommen und wurden direkt freundlich empfangen. Zur Auswahl standen sowohl à-la-carte-Gerichte als auch ein täglich wechselndes Mittagsmenü, das sich sehr vielversprechend anhörte. Die Bedienung war aufmerksam, schnell und sehr freundlich – auch optisch machte sie einen gepflegten Eindruck.

Das Ambiente im Inneren der Taverne ist gemütlich, traditionell griechisch und liebevoll altmodisch eingerichtet. Zwar ist der Laden eher klein und auch draußen gibt es nur wenige Sitzmöglichkeiten, aber genau das macht den Charme des Ortes aus. Es war sehr sauber und angenehm ruhig – ein idealer Ort für eine entspannte Mittagspause.

Das Essen kam heiß und ohne lange Wartezeit. Geschmacklich war es wirklich ein Volltreffer! Ich glaube, wir haben selten so gut griechisch gegessen – sogar im Vergleich zu Urlauben in Griechenland. Der Vorspeisensalat war frisch, nicht überladen mit Dressing und sehr ausgewogen im Geschmack. Mein Lamm war butterzart, saftig und perfekt gewürzt. Auch das Gemüse war auf den Punkt gegart, die Kartoffeln aromatisch, und das Tzatziki genauso, wie man es sich wünscht: cremig, frisch, mit genau der richtigen Knoblauchnote.

Besonders positiv ist uns aufgefallen, dass das Essen insgesamt sehr hausgemacht wirkte – nichts davon schien „von der Stange“ zu sein. Auch das Hähnchen-Gyros war offensichtlich selbst gemacht und extrem saftig – richtig gut abgeschmeckt und toll zubereitet. Man merkt einfach, dass hier mit Liebe gekocht wird.

Das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis hat uns ebenfalls überzeugt – die Portionen waren großzügig und jeder wird hier sicher satt. Auch Vegetarier finden eine gute Auswahl.

Portions for main vegetarian dishes are small, taste wise nothing exceptional. You may need to order one it two starters if you want to get full.
