I'm Israeli, and thus biased in favor of those who bring good Israeli food abroad. In this case - "A" for effort and unfortunately less for the final result. The restaurant is dimly lit with a rather strange red light, an inappropriate choice for a restaurant. We were seated in a table near the restaurant door, which given the lax Swiss attitude towards smoking ended up a bad choice, as the restaurant received much of the cigarette smoke from outside. The service, beginning to end and by all waiters, was excellent. Kind, attentive and light spirited. Much appreciated. We made a selection of appetizers and some mains - more misses than hits, despite the use of some excellent ingredients (e.g. the Har Bracha tehina, which is excellent, and a nice touch). The babaganoush was not smoky enough and the tehina didn't come through, the falafel was too dense and very dry. The trio of hummus was good and beautiful to look at (would have been better without the red surrounding light), but could use a drop of olive oil. Pitas were some of the best we had in Europe. The sweet potato was not special enough, and way too much greens (nothing against, but it's sort of a cover up). The mains - the chicken shawarma was really strange as a dish that's supposed to evoke shawarma. The deconstructed Sabih, well - ingredients were good, but it's a dish that loses a lot when served on a plate, although there was a thin "lafa" in which it could be rolled. There was more but I think I made my point... The knafe for dessert was simply excellent. Another disappointment - not a single israeli wine in the wine selection. In short - there's good will and good potential, but there's also much...
Read moreI honestly don't have enough words to explain how much I love this place. I'm from Los Angeles and was staying at the hotel above the restaurant. I came down for dinner one evening, and I honestly was so impressed with so many aspects. The atmosphere was warm and cozy, and the food was DELICIOUS!!! Their pizza is honestly to die for, I thought it came straight from Italy. I was sat at the bar, and I could see the pizzas being made in front of me. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming. My server (I believe his name was Niko) was so incredibly kind and welcoming! Coming from California, I had about a million questions about the food and drinks, and he answered every single one! He even made me a cocktail that was AMAZING! I asked if he could make me something that was sweet (but not too sweet) and refreshing, and he did!! And it was amazing! I don't remember what the cocktail was called, but it was incredible! I work remotely for a living so I'm able to travel a lot, and every time I'm in Switzerland, I come to Ribelli! I was just there again for their Sunday brunch (which I never tried before) and it was delicious. All the food is freshly made and laid out on the bar, and it really is an "all-you-can-eat" dream. Anyone who's local or just visiting should absolutely stop by at some point! It will not disappoint!! I feel like this review is getting a lot longer than planned, but long story short: RIBELLI IS INCREDIBLE! THE STAFF IS AMAZING! AND THE FOOD IS ABSOLUTELY DELISH!!! Counting down the days until I...
Read moreWe loved most of the food, but not so much the location. I highly recommend the meat filled fried cigars and babagaboush. Also leave a lot of space in your stomach for that delicious pita bread. Hummus I would serve with more olive oil to make it less dense but it was good. I had something with minced meat served on hummus and with pita bread. I loved the minced meat, real comfort food. We also tried one of their special with a lot of different sauces and falafel served on a open flat bread with an egg. If you combine all ingredients in a fork I thought it was delicious but you also need a T rex kind of mouth to make it fit :) Don't recommend the mashed potatoes which I'd rather call jacked potatoes. Oh, get the Zhug. Now the location: it was one of those last super nice sunny days and we really wanted to sit outside. But the terrace floor facing the backyard was all wet and cold even tough it hadn't rained in days. So we felt like sitting in a very humid space in some thoroughly cold forest. I think you get the idea. It was not comfy. The inside is ultra modern with lots of red light. If you come for an early dinner I thought the setting does not suit the mood. So we stayed outside felling not very...
