The food here is pretty average and really highly priced. There are better and cheaper Indian restaurants in Zürich. That however is not the reason for the low rating. The low rating is because of the staff or one waitress in particular. She is very rude and impolite and always tries to rush you to order quickly, eat your meal and leave. This has been my experience every single time I have been there. The last time I was there with a group of friends. There were two children with us, one 5 and the other 1. This waitress kept trying to get us to order our meal while we were still waiting for the rest of the group. Then every time she came up to the table to serve, she was rude to the youngest member of our group who was happily playing with the spoon or was enchanted by the candle light. She grabbed the spoon from the kid or any other item that she was playing with. She called the child a 'he' offending the parents, didn't apologize for her mistake when they corrected her. After the bill was paid, everyone had finished eating except this cute 1 year old and this waitress kept hinting at us to leave even though it was not yet closing time.
What bothers me is that she is not rude to everyone. She is very nice and polite to non-Indians and men who come here to eat alone. It has been my personal experience where I have seen her make small talk with non -Indians, flirting with men eating alone when we were trying hard to get a decent service.
Sorry for the long rant, but after this experience I am never going back there for an overpriced average Indian meal and a...
Read moreI tried Tamarind Hill for takeout one evening after my German-Swiss colleague asked me my opinion about them. Ordered just the Chicken Kadhai and the Chicken Chettinad.
The Chicken Kadhai was pretty good to taste though I didn’t feel it truly captures the Kadhai flavors as well as I’d have hoped. Was quite mild and almost felt like a version of Badami Chicken. The important thing was it was tasty and I wouldn’t be disappointed if served this in Mumbai.
The chicken chettinad was a bit of a disappointment though. The flavors were not right at all and the preparation left much to be desired.
Hard to judge an entire restaurant based on just two dishes but I do think they’ve got something going - amazing social media presence and the restaurant is really well done for ambience and decor. When I went to pick my order up, the dining hall was full with essentially locals. I think if they up their game in terms of authenticity and flavor profile of the food they’ll capture much more of the diaspora as well
Still going with a 4/5 because the Chicken Kadhai, though not authentic to me, was tasty and I like the idea of an Indian fine dining restaurant being driving distance...

From the moment we stepped into Tamarind Hill, we were transported to a warm and inviting atmosphere that perfectly captures the essence of India. The restaurant offers a cozy yet romantic setting, making it ideal for both intimate dinners and special occasions.
One of the highlights of our evening was a unique coriander and green apple chutney—an unexpected combination that was absolutely delicious! Every dish we tried was packed with authentic flavors, and what truly stood out was the detailed explanation we received about the special ingredients used in each dish. It added a whole new level of appreciation to the meal.
Despite the restaurant being fully booked, the service was exceptional—attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. It’s rare to experience such high-level service in a busy setting, but the team at Tamarind Hill managed it effortlessly.
