958 Pizza — Restaurant in Chishang

Edit: I went back for the signature tofu skin pizza, and it was great. The chicken wings were pretty good too.

We chanced on this pizzeria in the small town of Chisang. I was wowed by the high rating but secretly worried it would be a disaster. But the pizza turned out to be pretty good. I had the bacon and cheese, and it was more like Canadian style bacon than American. Tasted pretty good. I'd come back if I wanted pizza. I'm slightly sad I wasn't adventurous enough to try the signature tofu skin pizza, but would if I came back...

It's probably not totally fair to compare a pizza in Asia to European standards, however this one was really not good. It looked better than it was. The dough was too thick and undercooked and the sauce was indeed just ketchup, as stated on the menu. (We were hoping for a translation issue) Are there no canned tomatoes in Asia? Anyway it was way too sweet and doughy for us. Also the only drink they had was Coke. Service was friendly but prices are too high for...

One of the best pizzas I’ve had in Taiwan. Fluffy QQ base with a nice bit of wood fired char on the bottom, plenty of cheese and generous toppings. I chose the 豆皮 (bean curd skin) pizza which was original and well executed.

The pizza is only 9” but proved more than enough to fill one person up, especially as all the cheese is quite rich.

The interior is a beautifully restored old building with lovely wooden tables....
