23 Public | Craft Beer 精釀吧 — Restaurant in Da'an District

I came here after a long day in the lab. It was a long week, in fact. Things weren't going well, my results were showing up blank. My family kept questioning me about my graduation date. My personal life was a mess. And Yeah, my heart was broken more than a handful of times since I came to this island... Things were looking pretty grim. A colleague of mine called me up and asked me out for a drink. "Let's meet at 23 public!", He said. I had seen the place before on my daily commute and I had always wanted to check out the scene. There isn't much of a chilled bar scene here so I had always just grabbed a beverage from the nearest convenience store and went back to my room to unwind. This could be a good change for me. I walked through the glass doors and saw my friend at the bar. "What's good?" I asked. Anything and everything looked like it belonged. A couple IPAs on the list caught my eye. I haven't always liked IPAs but it's been such a long time, I figured I give it a shot. "One 6 please" I said in Chinese. The bartender nodded and proceeded to carefully filled the glass from the tap. The first sip relaxed my nerves immediately. My friend and I chatted for a few hours, ranting about different red tape we saw in our respective departments. So much nonsense and inefficiencies in and around everything here. "23 public " is a brand of IPA craft beer made by a guy from the U.K. living in Taipei. This bar only sells their brand. It has a regular crowd of patrons a few of which still think smoking is a cool thing. 🙀The Highlight of this place is three Woody Allen books placed next to rest room. The beer is 200NT$ / glass - happy hour ends at 19:00 . Amazing beer bar in a cool neighborhood. They open early, so a great option for day drinking. The bartender was a fellow Canadian living here in Taipei. The place doubles as a record shop, nice vibes. 8 taps, all locals, and were quite good. I like that every beer came with a description card. Prices were typical for craft beer in Taiwan, so a bit expensive. Even with little to no customers on a Thursday afternoon, I felt right at home.
