The food: the main course is very good indeed with Schweinshaxe, Schnitzel and Spätzle all really tasty and exactly how you would expect them in Germany. Unfortunately the side dishes do not live up to the main, especially the salad, by being scarce and really not worth the extra charge for the set menu.
The service: Service was quite nice, did not have to wait long and always had someone there when I needed service. On the downside, accepting only cash in a city like Taipei (which is becoming more and more cashless) in any restaurant that charges more than NT300 per dish is frankly inexcusable.
The place: this is where I see lots of wasted potential and the main reason for the low rating. AC is absolutely inadequate (I was sweating for the whole meal) the air moist and kitchen poorly aerated, resulting in the whole place being moist. The whole decoration can be described as "cost down to the extreme". This can be acceptable for a student startup, not for an established restaurant that charges good money for its food.
Conclusion: I really recommend the food, yet unless they start providing decent aircon and an atmosphere fitting for the price tag I cannot recommend it as an...
Read moreJäger shnitzel was amazing. Equally well done was the roasted pork loin. This food was some of the best I've had in Taipei. Sure maybe the gravy was a tad on the salty side but overall the flavors, portions, preparation were all spot on. I applaud the chef(s) for their work. The food was so great I'd gladly give Der Lowe 6 stars except.....
I was literally dripping sweat onto my food it was so hot down there. Given the number of permanent fans and summer dress of service staff I can only assume it's always 35 degrees down there. I'm not exaggerating, you will be dripping sweat as you try to enjoy your delicious meal. I'm not sure what the deal is here, if low/no AC is for cost saving purposes or the unit itself just needs to be replaced. Regardless for the price customers deserve a better dining experience.
Overall Der Lowe has enormous potential, as stated the food is spectacular, it's just hard to appreciate in such...
Read moreThis is a great place to experience authentic German food and a Bavarian-style restaurant! I loved it from the first moment I walked down to the underground level. It feels like a place that could exist in Munich, with an atmosphere of a brewery or restaurant that brews its beer underground. The decoration is impressive too :)
Their pork knuckle is great, with crispy skin, though my friend got a portion that was a bit tough to chew. We also ordered the grilled chicken, as it came highly recommended. Neither dish was disappointing, and they both tasted quite good! As for the beer, we had Helles and Radler. Both smelled great, and the prices were quite reasonable.
Overall, I had a great experience. It might seem a bit pricey, but considering you can enjoy authentic German dishes and feel like you’re in Bavaria for a night, it’s...
