As a traveler to Valencia, the sight of Valencia paella at Gustoso Italian Restaurant in Madison Taipei sparked familiarity. However, the execution lacked authenticity. The seafood failed to infuse into the rice, resulting in a lackluster flavor. Additionally, the paella lacked the traditional vibrant orange hue. The French bread in the bread section was disappointingly dense, reminiscent of steamed buns rather than the airy texture expected. The self-service area offered freshly baked pizzas, yet the Four Cheese Pizza strangely possessed a sweet undertone, deviating from authentic Italian flavors. The dessert selection varied, but only the rich and creamy Mövenpick ice cream stood out. My main course, the braised beef cheek, was sizable and tender but lacked distinctiveness in flavor. A suggestion would be to accompany it with French mustard to add acidity and enhance the taste. Dining on a Friday evening, the restaurant was moderately occupied, offering a spacious and tranquil ambiance highlighted by elegant pendant lights above the long wooden bar. Despite the lackluster food, the excellent service and ambiance make it suitable for business meetings, albeit not recommended for food enthusiasts. On Christmas Day, we enjoyed the wonderful Christmas menu for dinner at Gustoso, and had such a great time eating Chef Leo’s dishes. Each dish was exquisite and offered a great balance of flavors and a beautiful presentation. My personal favorites were the Cream of Squash Black Truffle Soup, the Seafood Risotto and especially the Grilled Wagyu Beef A5 5oz with Demi-glazed sauce. Superb Italian restaurant in town! I ordered a dinner set with grilled steak as the main course. The bread offered here is flavorful and chewy which rlly surprised me. The salad is one of the best salad I’ve ever had. They combined mozzarella with pesto which matched unexpectedly perfect.
