I was really excited to eat Authentic Xi’an food here. However the food was not really authentic and very underwhelming. It’s more like Taiwanese fusion style Xi’an where flavors and spices are toned down and muted. I also feel they used more oil than typical Xian cuisines use. My experiences with Xian food is from Xian, Beijing, Shenzhen, and New York City. So I would definitely say it’s not really authentic. I was hoping this place was going to be great because Xian food is really hard to find in Taiwan for some reason. I guess the spice and flavors are too strong for average Taiwanese. I was excited for broad/ wide noodles but I was quickly discovered that noodles were not that fresh. They were also not knife cut noodles. Just regular noodles preserved in a refrigerator. Very disappointing. The lamb soup was good. Lamb meat on a stick didn’t taste fresh and was a bit too chewy.
The second disappointment was the service. We had early early lunch and me and my friend were the only ones in the restaurant. I asked NOT to be seated next the bathroom or stair walk way. I asked several times and they said they can seat us at 3 or 4 person table other than one next to bathroom. People came in and they were single and couple set and they sat them immediately at the tables I requested. (These we’re not reservations. They were walk ins). So basically lied to me and forced to sit next to bathroom. I found this to be very rude and completely unnecessary for the staff to do.
Maybe it was just bad day for staff and restaurant. I really wanted to be happy eating Xian food once again. Hopefully I’ll try another place or maybe try this place if they can improve...
Read moreShaanxi Egg Rice Mix ($120): All you need to do is to mix them all because that’s the name of the dish and it will become truly tasty and delightful to eat. It has much larger portions than looked. I’ve always been eager to try this kind of dish for a long time.
Lamb Stir Fry ($320): They smell sour and piquant at first glance but taste delicious, succulent, salty, and well seasoned. As a huge lamb eater, I would say this is one of the greatest lamb dishes.
Glazed Bonbons ($25 each): They are literally the fried sliced roll with condensed milk which is common but still delicious.
The juice is plum flavoured ($160 not $40) which tastes great and you’ll be served with a paper cup that you can pour it into it or not.
In addition, soft drinks such as coke and cider costs $40 for each, and so does the oolong tea.
This Chinese Muslim (Shaanxi) restaurant is located on a narrow lane and a 5 minute walk away from the MRT station (SYS Memorial Hall) exit 2.
To top it off, moderate prices, convenient location, excellent food, rapid delivery, and benevolent service. This is my first time trying Chinese Muslim delicacies and I’m impressed by its special taste and authenticity. The decor looks amazing and indicative of Northeastern Chinese culture. The restaurant has basement floor and there are a few group tables for big families or friends reunion. However, the internet and cellular connection might be poor in the basement. Overall, it’s a 9 out of 10!
FYI, the hot tea and two side dishes (I love the spicy crackers) are complimentary, and the 10% service charge is included...
Read moreCame for dinner withour reservation for 2 people, was glad we got seated right away. But the restaurant was super busy, even though it was only 5:30pm. We ordered 5 dishes, 3 stir fry, 1 泡馍,1 油泼面. Overall the food was good, I just wish it was more spicy. We did ask for another dish of chilly oil which they provided but even then I think it was adjusted for the local palette which is more 香 as opposed to 辣. Good experience, would recommend if you are...
