I've been a frequenter of Tamed fox for about 2 years and have always liked it. Thought it was time to share some good Karma and write a review.
The branding, the design, the energy of Tamed Fox is excellent. The layout is cute and clever for whatever the building was before. The seats allow for flexibility as far as groups, meetings, or couples singles. Of course this is geared toward instagramability so note whatever comes with that is here which is great.
Dishes are great and very western. Some of the flavour techniques are more nouveau and a bit more then just the ingredients in of themselves. They seem to love avocados as a philosophy and if you do as I do you'll love any of their Avocado dishes. The mapo tofu dish is cleverly an homage yet western in flavour.
Drink are tasty and have the ecclectic options as expected in a western cafe with coconut, turmeric, matcha, and sesame. Solid drinks no complaints.
To address the con of price, I've been to some cafes in Taipei where a piece of toast with butter or cinnamon on it is 200. Also where a healthy bento is 270-420. This is a cute cafe with organic or quality ingredients and good portion for within that price range with high demand. Do not feel it's overpriced compared to places with 210 lattes with 200 twd slice of bread. For the same price here I get an avocado egg brunch dish with a delicious matcha latte or espresso drink. In conclusion CP value is high for this tier of cafe.
The service modus operandi is slighty inconsistent, sometimes you get silverware and sometimes not. Sometimes you order at the table sometimes not, I guess this is because of dynamic scenarios with groups although it does change and note that there is a service charge regardless.
It is So successful it can be hard to get in which is a selfish con but actually a great KPI of a great place! So really a pro!
Pros: almost every category food drinks cafe all great. Hope it can maintain it's core being while scaling to a...
Read moreLast stop in Taipei. I called this place up and wanted to book a table. But they said they don’t do reservation on Sundays. Cam and I showed up a quarter after 10 (they open at 10) and seated ourselves at a nice communal table. There aren’t many proper chairs at Tamed Fox. Half the chairs are taller bar chairs and a few were lower couchy like chairs with a lower coffee table. The atmosphere reminds me of a hostel, like you know one of those 大家可以一起吃吃東西 聊聊天的地方 很隨性很舒服 The food is reasonably priced, we got 3 dishes, 2 coffees and the bill came out to be just a little over $NT1000. Okay, food. The open face avo hummus sandwich was a pleasant surprise. We thought it might be bland but the hummus was well seasoned and every bite was scrumptious. The Hangry breakfast was the most meh dish of the three. Nothing was special about it. I wouldn’t get it again. But the braised pork taco, omg the braised pork taco. When Cam wanted to order it I was like “really? You’re going to be disappointed because they ain’t gonna do it right.” But oh boy was I wrong. You know that movie Ratatouille when Rammy or whatever that mouse’s name has music symphony playing in his head, THAT was exactly what was going on in my mouth. Everything went so well together. It was harmonious. That’s what I look for in a taco. But often times I’m disappointed because the taco shell is made of corn or the pork is too sweet. But this taco, was perfect. I would go back to Tamed Fox again and I hope they don’t change the recipe for this glorious taco. #10outof10nibblepoints...
Read moreOverall: hyped due to the pastries (donuts with coffee combination. Did not get to taste their donuts so can't judge) and the picture taking, food is good but not out of this world and service needs time to get in gear.
For people that suffer from dairy allergies do not be fooled by what seem vegan looking desserts. They still contain all the things we can't eat. Location: great location, opposite of PICO, close to xinyi anhe MRt.
Ambience - instagram friendly. White and green are the dominant colour with much of a beachside californian style. (Reminded Black mirror s3e01 colour palette in regards to the food styling). Outdoor entrance area with cute bench to take pictures but no outdoor seating.
Service: overwhelmed by the crowd, scattered brain but friendly.
TIP: 1/ beware the coasters are not well balanced. Coffee easily tip. 2/ Spice Girl drink is a killer - all you can taste is the turmeric.
