2020年八月二十日在这聚餐: 非常糟糕的一個經驗,以後再也不會去這個餐廳⋯因为我不太會中文,以下用英文分享 The Tavernist claims that they are a pet friendly restaurant, but they are not, and the restaurant manager Catherine Chen has displayed her arrogant while we were discussing if 10 of us with a dog can enter the reserved dining room. She doesn't even understand the meaning of "pet friendly" but insisted on some unrelated reasons in order to save her face. Very unprofessionally handling this confusing rules: one can bring pets all around the hotel and restaurant except entering the private room, which we reserved it for not disturbing others and willing to pay close 40K NTD on minimum spending. She uses government regulations as an excuse, but hey look, there is a table next at the door with her dog! Catherine, what are you talking about? Are you not understanding pet friendly restaurant means? She refused to invite her boss because she knows she was wrong but just 要面子不肯承认她的無知
8/26/2020 in response to The Tavernist reply: Your team had confirmed us that it is a pet friendly place when we made the reservation. Catherine n her team didn’t not explain what “pet free” is about when we were communicating, and she didn’t disagree w us when we use “pet friendly” as a term. The table near the entrance, which clearly is the restaurant area, sat a woman with her dog. And that is why we were so confused why the private room is not allowing pets? Please stop playing with words but just a sincere apology to show your team is professional. You cannot distinguished w pet-free and pet friendly in words, how do you define the two when your hotel is full of pets? At the end, the issue really has to do how poorly Catherine has handled the situation. But it apparently from your reply that your Tavernist team has...
Read moreWe were excited about the Christmas menu we saw online and went into this experience with high expectations, especially as we discovered this restaurant through the Michelin guide.
Unfortunately, the dinner was disappointing, and the service was lacking. The main issue was with the wine order. We requested three glasses of white for the starters and three glasses of red for the main, with one of the glasses split between two people, as my parents don’t drink much. However, the servers struggled to understand this request and continuously brought us the wrong drinks and at the wrong times. They ended up charging us extra seemingly due to confusion from ordering through different servers. By the end, I decided not to argue and just paid the additional charges. Very frustrating.
The meal itself started on a high note. The oysters, vegetables, and soup were delicious. However, we were served undercooked chicken on the fourth appetizer—something that shouldn’t happen at this price point. The seafood platter was decent, but the prawns and scallops were overcooked, which was disappointing.
The wellington was particularly underwhelming as it lacked flavor and was dry. This could have been salvaged with more sauce, but unfortunately, we were only served about a tablespoon. No one at our table finished their Wellington.
The affogato was served with an overly bitter espresso that completely overwhelmed the ice cream, making for a disappointing finish to the meal.
Overall, this was not a good experience, especially considering the cost. If you plan to spend 1k usd on a dining experience this is not it.
That said, the cocktails were excellent, and the atmosphere was great, which is why my rating...
Read moreThere was a happening at the first visit. But second was nice. This is the first time that I visit same restaurant while travel. Manager Mandarin was kind and hear my feedback carefully. So I decided to visit again at the last dinner of the trip. And it was successful. Unfortunately, I couldn't met the manager at that time. But the two young hall managers were careful and great also. They explained foods and taught how to eat as well.
Honestly, I don't like oyster and shellfish something like that. But I tried. And for me, seafood platter was the best plate of the set menu. The scallop was impressive. It cooked just surfaces evenly. So it was easy to cut, and keeps its soft innerside. And the steak was exact Medium-Rare at this time. The last dessert was very interesting. It looks like Taiwanese foods as called 滷肉飯 and 東坡肉. 滷肉飯 is made of tofu icecream and cookies. 東坡肉 is made of jelly(I couldn't get it what is inside), chocolate, and tangerine. This is the most interesting thing. It looked unfamiliar, but it tasted familiar. There is a tangerine chocolate in Jeju-do island which located in Korea. And since I am Korean, I eat the chocolate sometimes. The 東坡肉's taste was so similar to it.
House wines are also good pair with dishes. I tried chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir, and malbec. And I think sauvignon blanc for seafood, and cabernet for steak are the best pair. The house wine CS is napa wine. And it has its original flavor at the last. I enjoyed it.
It was worth to visit again. Thank you Mandarin who encourage me to came back again, and also I want to appreciate to the young hall managers who...
