Nestled in Taipei, Trastevere proudly carries the legacy of Sabatini, a name synonymous with classic Roman dining since 1958. This connection, which even extends to the "Sabatini" stamp on the plates and bowls (a detail that initially seemed a touch curious), certainly sets a stage of anticipation. You settle in, thinking you're in for an authentic Roman holiday on a plate. Our group, in a noble quest for a comprehensive taste, made the bold decision to order basically the entirety of their set menu. A marathon of dishes ensued, a parade that showcased the breadth of their offerings. This approach, while ambitious (and requiring a good appetite!), gave us a thorough sampling. However, despite the impressive array and the clear nods to its Roman parentage, the food itself proved to be the most underwhelming chapter of our visit. When benchmarked against the truly authentic, soul-satisfying flavors one encounters in the trattorias and ristorantes of Rome itself, the dishes at Trastevere Taipei generally fell short. That spark, that depth of flavor that defines genuine Roman cuisine, seemed to be somewhat lost in translation. It's a peculiar feeling to see the esteemed "Sabatini" name on your plate, a promise of quality and tradition, and then find the food doesn't quite sing the same glorious Roman opera. The ambition is there, the lineage is clear, but the execution, on this occasion, didn't transport us to the bustling, flavorful streets of Trastevere, Rome. The Verdict: If you're seeking a pleasant Italian-ish meal in Taipei with smart tableware, Trastevere might fit the bill. However, if you're chasing the robust, authentic taste of Rome and have high expectations based on its Sabatini connection, you might find, as we did, that the experience is a bit underwhelming. It's a restaurant with a famous Roman name, but it seems some of that Roman magic might have gotten a little jet-lagged on its way to Taipei. Maybe we are sad because we had high hope for...
Read morenew location really beautiful but food I'm sorry to say lost the level when they were in Sogo dep.
I order a set...
As usual they propose bread with nuts to dress with some olive oil... oil I have to say is really good but the bread doesn't reach the level they had in the past...surface isn't crispy anymore and it seems done with lower quality of material. Nevertheless still good but not almost perfect like it was...
I pay extra for a dish of Italian appetisers. A part the usual "prosciutto e melone" the rest 3 or 4 don't have anything to do with Italian tradition. I suggest to avoid to order that dish.
Soup is good...creamy and tasting...
Then I order a pizza with prosciutto.. .I have to pay an extra but I remember a very good ham with truffles and very tasty pizza....unlucky I receive something with the shape of a pizza...cheese is so sticky which looks like the bottom part of a shoe!!! Besides, they spreaded a sweet balsamic vinegar all over the surface!!! Never seen pizza with vinegar and they should it clearly write on the menu!!!Really difficult to eat (I can image my digestion tonight!)...
I close the set with a sort of acceptable cheese cake...again...in Italy we don't have any cheese cake...is this one really still an Italian restaurant (with Japanese chef)?.... My wife orders a panna cotta...ok...please don't ask me to write about it....
Finish this sad story... Final comment: restaurant was really good till the were in Sogo. Here something went wrong... Bad experience? Well... It will not anymore my first...
Read moreI have been their with my gf for valentine day. For the price (3813NTD), we really expected a high quality service and food.
We really have been disappointed by: Long time before being taking in charge a few mistakes in the order quality of meat (a really little with 50% of fat, so not a lot to eat) no proactive
For the last point, after notice to the waitress, they offer to remake the dishes.
A good point: I can not eat cheese. It was not written on the menu that the dishes it was made with cheese. When I got the dish, of course I was surprise and cannot eat. They just remake on for me without cheese. I really appreciate this initiative.
For that price, you can find much better restaurant in Taipei such as...
