We first came upon Qiu Family Sashimi when we visited Houbihu looking for fresh fish, and this was one of the first places we passed that was packed with people.
The store front showcases the different types of fish available, and we were almost instantly greeted by a staff member asking what we wanted. We ordered outside, asked for some recommendations, and were quickly seated inside.
First on the list was the large sashimi platter (40 pieces) including salmon, mackerel, tuna, and yellowtail. The fish all tasted incredibly fresh, and I even liked the tuna, which is something I normally do not prefer. Some of the best sashimi I've had in a very long time. For a price tag of 200nt, this by itself should be enough reason to visit.
We also ordered the small clams (海瓜子). What is great about this place is that not only are the seafood extremely fresh, they are prepared deliciously as well. The sauce for the clams was amazing but did not at all overpower the flavor of the clams.
Another favorite was the salted egg fried calamari. I will say now that this is to this day the best fried calamari I've ever had. The salted egg adds a kick to the fish, and is balanced out by a tantalizing sweetness that lingers on your tongue. Best of all, the calamari is not overfried at all.
We also ordered a plate of shark. This was the first time I had eaten shark meat, and it did not disappoint. Very tender and fresh. The sauce it was cooked in was delicious, and tastes amazing over rice. At the same time, it was still so easy to tell that the fish was fresh.
The staff were all extremely kind, as is characteristic of most restaurants in southern Taiwan. Bathroom was surprisingly very clean. Beverages are self serve from the refrigerator and you pay for them at the end.
I'll end this review by saying that during our 3 day trip in Kenting, we went to this restaurant 3 times, once every day. Houbihu has some of the best restaurants in the Kenting area, and it'd be a shame not to...

Very rude staff, and not a nice business policy. The menu when you arrive is NOT the same, as their webside or anywhere you find it.
You Will have to order a crazy amount of their “offcuts” from the fish they make sashimi from. It’s all the Brown parts and fibery, parts of the fish, with bad fish taste. You Can also order chicken or beef?? Who does that in a “sashimi” restaurant!?
There is alot of other fish restaurants around in the area, where you can choose actual fresh fish from the tank. Their sashimi is without weird rules and alot better more fresh and Way bigger portions!
At the other places, you will get 15 pieces, but weight it is 2x more and better tasting.
Do not support this behavior, support the other people in the area.

We went in a rainy day so the crowds were not too packed. After ordering and paying, we got a number. We were lucky enough for only waiting for about 10 mins. 15 pieces of salmon sashimi for $100 seems too good to be true for us. But we were wowed by the high quality of salmon! Besides, we ordered cold bamboo with mayonnaise, deep fried shrimp balls with pineapple and ginger clam soup. They’re unbelievably yummy!! Trying local food instead of delicate dining makes a special bond between Kenting and me :)
