Review for 花中榕樹下臭豆腐
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
花中榕樹下臭豆腐 is an iconic spot in Hualien for anyone who loves traditional Taiwanese stinky tofu. Here’s my detailed review based on my visit:
Atmosphere: The stall is uniquely located under a large banyan tree, providing a natural and rustic ambiance. The outdoor seating is simple but comfortable, allowing you to enjoy your meal in a relaxed setting. The shade from the tree adds to the charm, making it a pleasant place to dine even on a hot day.
Food Quality: The stinky tofu here is exceptional. It has the perfect balance of crispiness on the outside and tenderness on the inside. The distinct aroma and flavor are just right, not overpowering but definitely authentic. It’s served with a delicious side of pickled vegetables that add a refreshing crunch and tanginess to the dish.
Service: The service is friendly and efficient. Despite the busy crowd, the staff are attentive and quick to serve. They are more than happy to explain the menu and make recommendations if you're unsure of what to try.
Price: The prices are very reasonable, especially considering the quality and portion sizes. It’s a great value for money, making it an ideal spot for both locals and tourists looking to enjoy some authentic Taiwanese street food.
Location: Located conveniently in Hualien, it’s easy to find and access. The central location makes it a great stop during a day of sightseeing or a quick meal before heading to your next destination.
Overall Experience: My experience at 花中榕樹下臭豆腐 was fantastic. The combination of the unique outdoor setting, the high-quality stinky tofu, and the friendly service makes it a must-visit spot in Hualien. Whether you’re a stinky tofu enthusiast or trying it for the first time, this place will not disappoint. Highly...
Read moreI bought the mee sua and stinky tofu as take away. The noodle soup was thick and had fewer ingredients than expected. I enjoyed the noodles more when I had it hot at the shop. The stinky tofu was soft on the inside, slightly crisp on the outside and didn’t stink so much. My mom preferred more stink while I was contented with this moderate level. The fermented cabbage was the cherry on top and made the whole dish come together.
The open-air restaurant is known to have mosquitoes so do come prepared with insect repellent if you intend to dine in.
Overall, I would opt to look for other mee sua and stinky tofu of similar quality in order to avoid the flies (dine in) and avoid having cold food (take away). Though this would be a good option if you like to have both mee sua and stinky tofu in...
