老時光燒肉酒肴 — Restaurant in Hualien City

I hate leaving bad reviews, but this izakaya was the biggest disappointment ever. I can’t understand how it has the reviews that it does! Every single food item that we ordered had no flavor. My partner and I left dinner blown away by how disgusting each dish was.

We ordered 8 dishes in total: Sweet Shrimp Vegetable Salad with Sesame Dressing, Signature Spicy Beef Noodles, Spicy Chicken & Clam Soup with Shredded Chili, Grilled Mentaiko (Spicy Cod Roe) Rice Ball, Fried Combo Sampler (3 items), Stir-Fried Mushrooms with Bell Peppers, Yuzu Pepper Chicken Skewers, and Pork Belly with Cherry Tomato & Cheese Roll. We were initially on our way to another noodle house nearby when the smell was too gamy. As a result, we found ourselves at 老時光, albeit having to wait about 20 minutes for a table at 6.15pm.

The wait did not disappoint. The food was generally great – having a little slice of Japan in Taiwan. The skewers were excellent! The deep fried chicken on the other hand was not oily but a little tasteless. We ended the meal with a grapefruit dessert which was kinda pretty but a little sour.

Not only was the food great, the service was excellent. We were mostly served by 小楊, who was very alert and helpful.

Great job to the team...

This place is really busy and after dining here...I know why. The staff is very courteous and friendly. They were keeping an eye on us throughout our dinner to make sure we had what we needed and took away our dishes and skewers promptly. We arrived before they opened and was welcomed by one of the staff which confirmed our reservation and answered our questions. He then left us with the menu as he went in to eat his dinner before the restaurant opened for service.
