We were regulars at this place for their bagels until today. The coffee is okay. Louisa makes better coffee in my opinion. The bagels are good, my daughters like them. That's why we stopped by almost every morning. We don't dine in often, mostly take-out, but when we dine-in it's usually not more than 10-15 min. Typically we spend average $120-$200 on bagels and coffee each visit.
So this morning, we decided to dine-in with our 2 bagels. The cafe was literally empty, no dine-in customers. We were told that we needed to purchase $120 per person in order to dine-in. Okay, not the first place we have been to with this policy. But today was particularly bothersome. The store was empty, and they see our family come almost every morning. We don't sit down for hours like other customers. It's just really poor service and a horrible business practice. The business math is stupid, demand a $120 premium per person for one visit or lose a $120-$200 opportunity everyday.
I know they were just employees following the rules and policies placed and pushed by the manager or owners to follow the rules, but seriously use some common sense. For example: "I see them come everyday, they don't sit very long. Today's not so busy, it should be okay. We don't need to bother them to buy more things in order to sit down. Next time if it's busy, and other customers are waiting to sit down, I will remind them."
We have been told this same policy by other cafes and restaurants before during their busy times. We have common sense and courtesy enough to understand and oblige with no complaints. Just a side note, those cafes and restaurants that we visited with that policy are not in...
Read moreI really like the menu from the coffee beverages to the salads, pockets, and toast. The coffees are well made and the range of food is quite appropriate for a simple cafe that’s great for simple no frills breakfast, lunch, and snacking. Over all, I really like the atmosphere of this place. What I appreciate less is that the staff are not too friendly. They hardly ever smile when taking your orders or when you ask them for things. A very stiff and consistently rigid service demeanor. As a customer I come away feeling like I owe somebody an apology or something. Also this place is not very flexible. You ask for coffee cream and sugar and they tell you to do it yourself and you get cheap containers of cream and paper sticks of sugar. That I find tacky and beneath a boutique cafe. Also, I was quite disappointed to find wilted and discolored lettuce in my fruit salad. That should not...
Read moreI've loved all the lattes I've had here: cold, hot, matcha... The salads are also great, very fresh. Tried the walnut cinnamon bin today, it was so lovely, warm and fluffy!
Relaxed atmosphere with lots of power outlets, it's my go-to place to work from a cafe in the area.
I do have a complaint about the very long wait times in the morning. Come on, guys, 40 minutes to make my coffee at 10am on a Tuesday morning?? (Similar wait for a salad on a Monday morning.)
Hope to be back more and to not...
