PAMMA COFFEE — Restaurant in Kaohsiung

After spending the whole morning exploring a few tourist attractions, I told myself it was time to slow down, take a short rest, and grab something to eat. The sun was high and the heat was starting to drain my energy. Luckily, I spotted Pamma Coffee, just a few steps away from where I was. It looked cozy from the outside, so I decided to check it out — partly to cool off, partly to just enjoy a quiet break.

When I got inside, the air-conditioning felt like heaven. The place had a calm and relaxing vibe — soft music playing, clean interiors, and a big window that gave a perfect view of the lake on one side and the old city on the other. I wasn’t really hungry at that time, just needed something light to fill me up, so I ordered spaghetti and an iced coffee.

The food came out beautifully plated, with a nice touch of garnish that made it look like something out of a café magazine. The spaghetti tasted simple but satisfying — not too heavy, just right for a mid-day meal. The iced coffee was cold and refreshing, exactly what I needed to beat the afternoon heat.

If you are hungry and you want to stop for food, don’t bother! I am a tourist and as I spent quite some weeks in Taiwan I felt like I want some international food, so I went for a Caesar salad (as everybody heard about it and it is a safe choice wherever you would go). Apparently here ”Caesar salad” has nothing to do with the Caesar salad we all know. Paying 268 NTD for 5 lettuce leaves, 2 cherry tomatoes and croutons, that’s what this place calls a Caesar salad to be. I can make a joke and say that these 5 lettuce leaves were the most expensive lettuce leaves I have ever had. The sauce was another disappointment, just some garlic mayonnaise (probably the same they use for fried snacks like French fries).

It was great coming into an air conditioning cafe when the outside temperature is hot and humid. The view is great, and the food is non Taiwanese. Mostly serving Pastas, hamburgers, coffee, tea, and other drinks. The pasta was not what you would expect like in the USA, but good for Taiwan style pasta. I had the cuttlefish pasta and the cuttlefish fish was a bit chewy and dry, but the sauce of the salted egg was tasty. The cheese pasta was similar to carbonara, but not quite the same as it was literally a cheese pasta. It was alright.
