Taiwan Day 8 Vlog! This is a jam-packed day exploring Kaohsiung for the first time! This ended up being one of the most memorable days for me with all the exploration and delicious food, so save this if you plan on visiting Kaohsiung! 📍台南遠東香格里拉 Shangri-La Far Eastern, Tainan 701, Taiwan, Tainan City, East District, 大學路西段89號 📍Fo Guang Shan Buddha Museum No. 1號, Tongling Rd, Dashu District, Kaohsiung City, Taiwan 84049 📍漢來蔬食 (Hi-Lai Vegetarian Restaurant) No. 2, Tongling Rd, Dashu District, Kaohsiung 840 Taiwan 📍Dragon and Tiger Pagodas No. 9號, Liantan Rd, Zuoying District, Kaohsiung City, Taiwan 813 📍Tien Shui Yueh Hotpot (Permanently closed now 😭) #Taiwanvlog #kaohsiung #foguangshan

We love Taipei, but…. Have you ever visited Kaohsiung? There you can find a Confucius Temple (built in 1684), beautiful 🐲dragon and 🐯tiger pagodas (龍虎塔), and the Yuandi Temple (元帝廟) located along the Lotus Pond (蓮池潭) scenic area. Walk through the dragon’s throat and out of the tiger’s mouth for good fortune! You will also see lots of turtles swimming in the pond.🐢 ☀️The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon to avoid the crowds and for cooler temperatures. 🚆Fastest way to get from Taipei to Kaohsiung is via HSR (high speed rail), a 2-hour train ride. 🙋🏻‍♀️Share about this place with your friends and save for your next trip to Taiwan! ————————— 📍No. 9, Liantan Rd, Zuoying District, Kaohsiung City, Taiwan 813 813高雄市左營區蓮潭路9號

Vibrant pagoda! Fun to walk through. Large lili pads with lotus flowers hug the base of the zig-zag pathway and the pagodas themselves. Nearest station is a 20 minute walk to the Pagodas. Not a bad walk, it’s all paved and you pass through a botanical garden. Just know that you will need to walk a bit to get here, or you could take a taxi. Free to enter, there is a donation box you can toss money into. As you enter the Dragon and exit the Tiger, in their bellies are little statues of emperors that line the wall behind glass. 2 spiral staircases that reach 7 stories tall. Accessible up to the 6th floor. You can stand out on the balconies and see the zig-zag pathway from a unique perspective. Or you can walk around the patio and catch a glimpse of the Confucius statue and see the rest of Lotus Lake. Go early if you want to avoid the crowds, but sunset allows for the best colors in the sky. Temple closes at 5:30PM but the pathways near the temple, along the Lake is open 24/7.

For tourists planning to go to Kaohsiung, the Dragon and Tiger pagodas are am excellent attraction to visit during your stay. These pagodas, as well as many others, can be found on the lotus pond. While the pagodas are only open to go inside during daylight hours (according to the schedule officially listed on Google), it is also possible to visit at night (although only the outside areas) when the temperatures are lower and there are generally less people.

When visiting this area, it is highly recommended to visit the other pagodas in the vicinity as well which may offer more to see than these.

DO: Check out other pagodas Indulge in some snack food in the area Visit the large nearby temple (impossible to miss it) Bring an umbrella

WARNING: During Summer months, for those particularly prone to bug bites, it is recommended to put on an extra layer of bug spray to prevent mosquito bites. As mentioned above, they are located on a pond, and insects are an inherent byproduct of such an attraction. It is not particularly excessive, but definitely something to think about to keep the remainder of your...

Per Heather’s request, we took the high speed train to Kaohsiung to explore the dragon & tiger pagodas. The Dragon and Tiger Pagodas is a temple located at Lotus pond in Zuoying District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The temple was built in 1976. One of the towers is the Tiger Tower, the other one being the Dragon Tower.

Both towers are seven storeys tall and have yellow walls, red pillars and orange tiles. A zigzag bridge connects the towers to the shore. There are paintings inside the temple depicting Ksitigarbha. In the Tiger Tower, there are paintings of twelve Magi and the Jade Emperor's thirty palaces as well as paintings of Confucius. The towers have a double spiral staircase, one each for ascending and descending visitors Despite its remodeling, it’s still open to public. It’s hard to tell these towers have been built 40 years. We had great time & explore more on...
