Overall we had a great experience at Smoky Joe’s.||The breakfast selection (you can pick from about 8-10 dishes) are actually quite good. The pulled pork bagel was pretty authentic, and the beef noodle and sandwich was also not bad!|The building itself has a really wacky faux retro western feel to it, which is a lot of fun, and most of everything there including toiletries are of the Smoky Joe brand, so it’s really a very interesting and fun theme.||Service was great - all the staff were very friendly and it seemed like quite a few of them spoke English too or at least understood it so it was very easy to get in and out. They can call a taxi for you as well, which is not a service I was expecting out of a smaller boutique hotel.||The room we stayed in is small, but not too small, and did not have a tub, only a shower. It’s also very cutely designed!||Now the issues:|First of all, there was cockroaches. Granted, we didn’t see them until the day we had to check out, but it really startled me to see two not very small cockroaches crawling in and out of the vents and behind the picture frames. Now, since it IS taiwan, cockroaches are quite common so it’s not something I’ll give a hotel a bad score for, and besides, my husband had been eating food and throwing out food waste in the trash can in the room. I would highly recommend not leaving any open food or any crumbs lying around in the room, because this WILL make the cockroaches come out from hiding.||Second of all, the water pressure was very weak, particularly in the toilet. It got clogged very easy, and required someone to unclog it for us.||Third, the room was strangely hot. We had the temperature turned down to 19 C in our room, but it felt more like 26 C - it was so hot. We had to turn it down to 17C for it to feel cool, which makes no sense to me.||So overall, not a bad hotel! The staff were really quite nice and I liked them and the theme of the hotel a lot. But I probably wouldn’t stay here again. Cockroaches really scare me.||One tip for anyone who is trying to get here via taxi: if you speak Chinese just tell them to take you to Mao Yan de Qiao, Jiu Shi Gong Yv Lv Dian (冒煙的喬就是公寓旅店) on Wu Fu Si Lu 91 Hao(五福四路91號)- there are multiple Smoky Joe’s, so it’s the one that is the hotel, NOT the restaurant as there are several locations...

Read moreNormally, I’m not one to complain. But after getting my order wrong then being brought this monstrosity I had to. How you can even call it a burrito is beyond me. Me and my friends have joked about it all night. It looked awful and tasted worse. Hard, chewy, awful tasting unseasoned beef with a wet tortilla (probably from all the salad on top). No beans (basically no beans), no rice and barely any sour cream or guacamole. They even put olives on which is just weird.
When I complained I’m told that it’s my problem! That they can’t cook authentic. Acting like I’m the one with the problem. Waiter was rude and when I talked to other staff they never offered a refund. Actually I didn’t expect a refund, I just wanted to let them know about the quality. But you would think they would offer it anyway.
It’s not my problem at all, it’s just awful food and you need to sort it out. Watch a YouTube video or go taste a proper burrito. It doesn’t matter if it isn’t authentic, but it needs to at least be edible and have taste.
Do not order...
