During our recent stay at the InterContinental Kaohsiung, the experience we most looked forward to was dinner at their Cantonese restaurant Zhan Lu – a ritual of ours whenever we check into a five-star hotel.
We had pre-ordered their signature Zhan Lu Roasted Duck, and it exceeded all expectations. When it was brought to our table, the duck trolley was beautifully presented with a wooden box filled with dried flowers – a thoughtful touch that elevated the entire experience and set it apart from other restaurants we’ve visited. It conveyed a real sense of care and sophistication.
The carving was done tableside by the chef, while two attendants assisted seamlessly – one carefully wrapping each pancake, the other serving them to us with grace. The duck skin was beautifully crisp and flavoursome, and the sliced duck wrapped in pancakes was simply divine.
For the second course, we selected the Wok-fried Hand Minced Duck with Espelette Pepper, Pine Nuts, Black Bean Sauce and Lettuce Wrap. It was absolutely delicious – full of depth and texture, especially with the addition of the crispy crackers which added a delightful crunch.
We also thoroughly enjoyed the Wok-fried Rice with Abalone, Seafood, Sakura Shrimps and XO Sauce. It was generously portioned and well-executed, leaving us feeling completely satisfied. Dessert was another highlight – the Taro and Egg Yolk Pastry had a flaky crust with a luscious, lava-like salted egg yolk centre that was simply outstanding.
To top it all off, the restaurant surprised us with a complimentary strawberry matcha cake – a charming and generous gesture. Throughout the meal, the staff were attentive, friendly and highly professional, refilling our tea and anticipating our needs with quiet efficiency.
All in all, this was an exceptional dining experience. From presentation to service and flavours, Zhan Lu truly impressed us. We’ll definitely be returning the next time we’re...
Read moreWent to Zanlu Chinese Restaurant at InterContinental Kaohsiung to celebrate Father’s Day and ordered their signature roast duck — served in three different ways. Honestly, this is one of the best roast ducks I’ve ever had! The skin was perfectly crispy, bursting with rich aroma and juicy flavor in every bite. The third course, duck congee, was made with so much care — generously packed with tender duck meat and absolutely no bones at all!
We also tried a variety of beautifully crafted dim sum, and every single one was spot on. The braised beef cheek puff was a real standout — flaky, flavorful, and simply unforgettable.
If you’re looking for a special place to celebrate or enjoy a memorable meal in Kaohsiung, Zanlu is 100% worth visiting. Truly an outstanding dining experience from...
Read moreGlad we made a point to dine here this evening. The Google reviews were accurate - Andy’s service is exceptional, the ambience is very relaxing, and every dish was delicious while being presented and served with meticulous care.
We ordered the 3-course Peking duck the morning of, but the menu actually advises for 48-hours in advance. I’m not sure if that’s necessary or just recommended.
The duck was juicy and had a very crispy skin. Our second course, the lettuce wrap, was a great choice, and we ended with the congee, which was very smooth and flavourful.
We also enjoyed the giant deep fried egg yolk prawns and water lotus with garlic. Every dish was made to perfection! We thoroughly enjoyed...
