Lai Fu Seafood Restaurant — Restaurant in Magong City

A traditional Taiwanese restaurant with typical hot fried cuisine. All the dishes were excellent and the appetizer, fried peanuts covered with sugar, was special yet unexpectedly tasty. However, there were 2 main reasons that I can't give the place more stars.

First, they didn't have menu in any kind. The ordering was to show you the all food materials, mostly seafood, in the fridge and then ask you to order from whatever you see and however you want it to be cooked. To be fair, this is a rather traditional way of ordering in a Taiwanese restaurant. But, the downside of it is also quite obvious. You don't know the price and can hardly control your budgets nor have a whole view of your meal. And, of course, it makes you forget to order specialty dishes.

Second, the price was not very attempting, which combined with the first point can be really unpleasant. We, 5 native Taiwanese adults, had our meal and estimated it might cost us around 8 or 9 hundred NTD, cause we were quite full and didn't order much. Yet somehow, the bill climbed to more than 1300 NTD.

Wir haben dieses Restaurant besucht, nachdem ein Freund ein Bild von den gebratenen Tintenfischen auf Google Maps gesehen hatte – sah einfach zu gut aus, um es nicht zu probieren.

Das Restaurant hat eine klassische taiwanesische “Re-Chao”-Atmosphäre – einfache Einrichtung ohne viel Dekoration (ein frischer Blumenstrauß auf dem Tisch wäre aber ein nettes Detail). Die Umgebung ist sauber, aber es ist recht lebhaft, da die Gäste hier oft laut plaudern – typisch für diesen Stil von Restaurant.

Beim Eingang wurden wir freundlich begrüßt und direkt zum Kühlschrank draußen geführt, wo wir frische Zutaten auswählen konnten. Die Portionen werden auf die Personenanzahl angepasst – sehr praktisch.

Der Service war wirklich angenehm – eine nette Mitarbeiterin half uns beim Bestellen, war geduldig und hat uns nichts aufgedrängt, auch keine teureren Meeresfrüchte. Die Mitarbeiter sprechen allerdings kein Englisch – man sollte also eine Übersetzungs-App auf dem Handy bereithalten.

Besonders zu empfehlen: • Gebratener Tintenfisch auf der heißen Platte – sehr frisch und süß im Geschmack, schmeckt sogar ohne zusätzliche Gewürze. Auf Wunsch gibt es Pfeffersalz, Wasabi oder Sojasauce. • Austern – in verschiedenen Zubereitungsarten erhältlich. • Grünes Gemüse – wir sahen Wasserspinat, Wassernabelkraut und Kürbis mit Venusmuscheln aus Penghu.

Wir bestellten vier Gerichte, ein Getränk und eine Schale Reis – insgesamt 890 NTD. Vor dem Essen gab es eine kleine Vorspeise (getrocknete Fische mit Erdnüssen), und am Ende zwei Stücke Wassermelone als Dessert – beides kostenlos.

Wir kamen zur Abendzeit, es war etwas voll, also sollte man sich auf eine kurze Wartezeit einstellen. Dennoch kam das Essen recht zügig.

Insgesamt ein tolles Lokal für frische Meeresfrüchte zu einem fairen Preis mit freundlichem Service. Wenn man in Penghu ist und Lust auf authentisches taiwanesisches Seafood hat, ist dieses Restaurant definitiv einen Besuch wert – mit Übersetzungs-App klappt’s auch...

Tasty, fresh, with lightning quick service! We got the red braised pork, pumpkin seafood rice noodles, breaded and fried cuttlefish (so good!), and a stir fried sea vegetable. The pork is too big for 2, so we couldn't finish it. I ordered from the Google maps photos and our food was cooked and on the table in about 5 minutes. I...
