The best woodfire style pizza I have ever bought. The food was so delicious we went twice!
We were recommended Mercato Pizza by our accommodation host and decided to go for lunch. We sat upstairs and luckily got the last table as the place was full! We ordered 2 pizzas to share. Both were so tasty and flavourful with just the right amount of toppings. But the stand out of the two was the Sexy Meatball pizza. It was so good we went back the next day and ordered 2 more!
The pizza was the perfect size to enjoy and admire how perfectly crafted and cooked it was. Excellent dough that was cooked to perfection for a great textured crust. I think if the pizza was any bigger it would have been difficult to finish and not have you coming back for more.
When I went downstairs to collect the pizza I spoke with the owner Leah, who was right there making the pizzas. She told me to cut the pizza with the scissors at our table and then roll the slice towards the crust to eat it. I can't say I've ever done this before but it was a great eating experience.
Leah is born and raised on the island but speaks English fluently and was able to give some killer recommendations on the island. Great beach spots and other local eateries.
Our second lunch also included the purple cactus soda which was incredible and a lemon drink which had a lemon ice block (ice cream) in it, which was also very tasty.
Leah was so lovely she even gave us a free dessert which was salted caramel icecream with walnuts. And to no surprise even the ice cream was perfection. Deliciously creamy!
10/10 across the board for this place. I'd highly highly recommend going for a meal and chatting to Leah.
Easily the best woodfire style pizza I have ever bought and I think it's going to be hard to beat. And definitely a great story to say that the best pizza I've ever had is from a small island off the...
Read moreWe chose to come here because the coaches from the stand up paddle activity recommeded this place. We knew beforehand that the GOOGLE MAP rating of Penghu might not be so accurate. After viewing individual comments, we had mentally prepared ourselves somehow. The 5 of us all had different main dishes. Though they were not too outstanding in terms of taste, they were quite something if you're looking for something to photograph the plating. The waitresses were not that kind as described from other comments. I felt rather a bit mechanical from the introduction. The recommendation from it can be easily presumed that the purpose was to drive up our bill. We were 3 guys and 2 girls and they recommeded us to each order the +100 NTD sets and a large size platter, which would totally be over-ordered. The cover of the tampura was above-average, yet the seafood itself was a little bit unfresh and too wet with both the shrimps and the squids. Recommend to order the submarine burger style (is that a word?) because the taco style food was plated like a pyramid with the tempura on top. You'll have to finish your tempura and then your salad before you can make that taco a roll

Read moreSo far the only pizza canotto I've found in 8 years in Taiwan. As a southern Italian I can say the dough is very good and close to Napoli style. I wasn't a fan of the topping choices however, as in Italy we will only put a few ingredients that complement each other. (I turned away at the sight of the pineapple pizza.) Therefore, I had the margherita which was good. My girlfriend had the pesto pork pizza which was ok, but the pesto genovese didn't taste authentic. Overall, good quality pizza for Taiwan standards. I'll return next time I visit Penghu but I'll probably stick to...
