白房子 Yang Ming Caf’e — Restaurant in Shilin District

Came here for the first time today. Sadly was only able to have soup. They forgot to put my steak order in. So my wife had the Pasta, which was flavorless. Nice atmosphere, however you can tell that their business is quite good. They have gotten lazy, the service is not too good. There are many things that can be improved here. I’m sure the owners don’t care too much any more since they have enough business. As a previous restaurant owner myself I know I could improve a lot about this place. It’s human nature to become fat and lazy when things are going well. Luckily for them they are in an area where business is plentiful. If this cafe was anywhere in the western world, USA, Europe, Australia etc. it would be a below average cafe. It’s a nice rustic place a good stop on your trip around Yang Ming Shan. But not a destination in and of itself. And it’s really only about it’s atmosphere. The Robotic coffee maker offers a nice curiosity but not necessarily a superior cup of coffee. But then again this barista didn’t deliver on my cappuccino. In a country with more coffee shops then families you think the competition would force up the quality. The food is “meh”. It’s interpretation of a western dishes leaves something to be desired. Go with the more Chinese style dishes to be less disappointed. It’s hard to ruin a spaghetti so I’d recommend the Vongole, just remind them to not add salt… waffles presented well but tasted closer to a starchy cardboard.. sorry I also...

Food is pretty bad for its price, eg the sandwich bread is not fresh, and the salmon inside it does not taste good; the angel hair is over cooked to almost like rice noodle. But the place is still full of people at 3pm who flocked to yangmingshan for weekend late lunch. The environment of this old house is nice - so it is ideal for photo taking and chilling but do not come here for food. They give free cake for those who rate it five star on google map, so do not trust some of the reviews. I also hate restaurants for such practice. It is same as false...
