Lovss Burger — Restaurant in Wenshan District

Highly rated on Google, but imho, undeserved.

I came before the lunch rush (if there was one) and ordered the basic cheeseburger via QR code. Their standard burger is actually pork or chicken, and a beef patty is +$10NT.

When the burger arrived, I had to ask twice if it was actually beef, just in case they made me the pork one by accident: the patty looked like a pork patty instead of the rich brown and crispy of a classic beef burger patty. They assured me it was, and also asserted it was pure beef: I guess their supplier grinds their meats more finely than one would expect for a burger. You can check my photos for what the outside and inside of the patty look like and judge for yourself if that’s a good burger to your liking. For me, it was not.

Burger bun seems to be custom made for them, but it’s spongy and dry. Could use some enrichment.

The “thick cut” fries are actually standard-not-thick size (in contrast to their shoestring fries option), and the outer surfaces are crispy but the centers are dense.

All this was north of $300NT, so it’s not even like you can throw them a bone for “you get what you pay for”. I’ve had a fantastic burger for closer to $200NT, but didn’t feel like trekking out that for.

Their wall has huge words painted on it, among others: BEST BURGERS IN TOWN. I think it’s great to have aspirations, and...

This is a very nice restaurant near the Jingmei MRT station. The menu is a little small, but they have a mix of different types of food for different tastes. Burgers might be their best sellers, but they also have pasta and pizza. One thing that made this unique for small restaurants is that they make their own bread. It's a little out of the way, but it's easy to find from the MRT. The seating is good, and the staff speak English and are very friendly and helpful...

I’ve had their blue cheese and truffle burgers here and have enjoyed both of them. The range of options for the sides and drinks are good, the flavors of condiments and sauces they put on the burger work well, and the buns are good quality. The patty size is pretty decent and not greasy or burnt like I’ve had at other American style burger joints in Taipei. Both times I’ve been here the staff were nice and very polite.
