The hotel staff at Forward Hotel suggested this restaurant when I asked for a noodle spot which was not beef noodles nor spicy due to the people that I was travelling with. We went there and it was a little trying at first because with limited Mandarin/English between myself and the restaurant, patience on both sides was required. Although the restaurant has plastic reproductions of the food ala Japanese restaurants, you can't really know what it is without some measure of questioning the staff since Taiwanese cuisine enjoys entrails and we do not. The staff did their best to help us - service was not surly - just not totally friendly but typical for any busy Chinese restaurants.
The Dan Zi Mian was a small bowl (meant to be snack sized) but very tasty. A light broth similar to a dialled down Malaysian prawn mee but very nice springy noodles. Recommended.
We also had two vegetable dishes - sweet potato leaves which came stir fried with a meat topping, and tong hou (crown daisy) which was topped with a lard and garlic oil (also tasty). The Lu Rou Fan was okay but nothing to write home about. The stand out dish oddly enough was a white bitter gourd fried in salted egg - very more-ish and white bitter gourd seems to be a more tempered version of its green cousin, being less bitter and so makes this dish actually much more appetising. We also had the house special - a sliced fried pork that was quite tasty although a little fatty for the health conscious. Damage for 4 small eaters for the above was NTD695 which in ringgit terms, was very decent for the...
Read moreThis restaurant stands for many many years. And the flavour remains the same, good quality. Many tourists especially Japanese love to eat here. Due to popularity the store expanded to two different restaurants adjutant to each other. I visited the noodle place this time. They have pre-made dish display so it’s very easy to visualize your dish without having to read Chinese. This is a great place to enjoy local beer and try variety of seafood dishes. Casual dining. The restaurant next store will be for group of people to eat. Like group of 10, 20. I would love to...
Read moreThis is the one restaurant I want every visitor to experience. Great variety of authentic Taiwanese cuisine at very reasonable price. The signature Taiwanese style Dan Dan Noodle is an absolute must order. No wonder they normally sell over 2,000 of these babies per day for about $1!!! Rest of the dishes are laid out in the front of the store so you can pick out what you want. This is especially useful as the staff won't have much...
