The Garten Living is an amazing place 5 minutes walk from the beach. My friends and i, loved our stay in The Garten. It is an elegant oasis right in the heart of Paje, Zanzibar. Everything in this place is designed and constructed with taste and quality. The bofo styling is seen throughout the premises in such detail, as if it was taken from a formal architectural publication. Moreover, the exotic plants and predominant kentias rule the place and create a unique tropical jungle-like atmosphere, enhanced by the tasteful decorative lighting and the excellent edm downtempo sounds. Despite, the many plants, no mosquitos were noticed!
The rooms are tastefully decorated and spacious with air condition units and powerful ceiling fans. The beds are big and comfortable and there is also a safe for valuables. The walk in showers and bathroom, in general, are spacious and designed to the finest detail. Hot water was available at all times.
There is also a well functioning power generator for those regular Paje power cut downs. We never stayed without power for more than a minute :)
The Garten also has an amazing kitchen. The breakfast buffet was included in the room price and had everything to get you up and going. Moreover, whenever we had lunch it was simply delicious (don't forget to taste the juicy burgers and beef fillet) and the prices were extremely reasonable for such a service.
The stuff was really polite and helpful with good speaking level of English. The manager Louay (pronounced Lou-é) is an extremely interesting, well mannered and cosmopolitan person, with extensive knowledge of Paje and the island, in general. Plus, he is a keen kitesurfer, that can give you helpful tips on the kitespot, if you have come for this purpose to Paje (as i have :) ).
Wifi speeds and coverage were adequate for our needs, although Zanzibar is a place with not so great reputation for fast internet.
All these create a true gem and a place not only for sleeping comfortably, but also a place that you would really like to spend time in and even skipping happily going around town!
I, therefore, highly recommend the Garten to any future guest. It is more than living. It is an experience bringing...
Read moreLet me warn you guys, please don't be fooled by the pictures and I advice you to run away before you book in The Garten Hotel. I have to admit that the interior is really nice and the outdoor area is beautiful. HOWEVER, all of this goes to waste because there's nothing else that is good about it. I booked for my 3 nights stay in paje and it was a nightmare. First of all, the person in charge of answering whatsapp was very disrespectful and unprofessional. Coming from a whole different continent, someone would really want to know all about the new place he/ she gna stay at. They were responding one day later and sometimes ignore my messages until I double text again. When I was asking my last question before i fly to Zanzibar which is about the payment, the person on whatsapp told me that "it's not part of his job to answer me". I WILL PUT ALL THE SCREENSHOTS HERE SO PLEASE CHECK THEM TO SEE HOW THEY TREAT GUESTS. Morever, breakfast was very limited and the plates smelled like fish. To make it worse, i came back from a whole day of tourism wanting to shower and relax in my room. To my surprise, my room's water heater was not working. I spent 2 hours waiting for maintenance to fix it and still nothing. I asked for the staff to heat some water for me, they got me a dirty water bucket that is not even enough to wash hands. They promised to fix it in the morning, and after they said they did, i tried to shower again and nothing but dripping water that turned cold after 2 minutes. On top of all that, one of the staff members called me "dramatic" for being upset about all this. I had to check out and leave to another hotel. They didn't even try to make it up for me in anyway and took the price of this horrible night. Congrats on winning the worst hospitality...
