YAKO RESTAURANT — Restaurant in Unguja

I am a little surprised by all the good reviews. We visited during our 2 night stay in Kiwengwa and only because our kids were overly hungry and we were too tired to look for another restaurant. This was the worst restaurant experience in Zanzibar and probably in the last couple of years. While the staff was friendly and welcoming, the food was a disaster. My husband ordered their masala that was very far from what it was supposed to be. The spinach that came with it was so bad that my husband talked about it for days. The only edible thing on his plate was the rice. I ordered fried calamari with fries. Kids ate the fries and spit out the calamari although that is their favorite food. The calamari was so tough and chewy ...the "crust" was sogy with oil...just bad. We paid and left. I told the waitress the food was terrible but she only smiled and said she understood. It's not hear fault obviously so we didn't take it...

We recently visited Yako, and I must say it was a delightful experience! The Chicken Salad and Chicken Pizza that we ordered were absolutely delicious. The flavors were outstanding, and the ingredients were fresh and of high quality. Roberto Rossi, the manager, ensured that our dining experience was top-notch, providing excellent service and attentiveness. The ambiance of the restaurant was warm and inviting, creating a pleasant atmosphere to enjoy our meal. I highly recommend Yako to anyone looking for a satisfying and flavorful dining experience. A small local pizzeria run by an Italian who employs local staff. The pizza is delicious, made with really good ingredients. It's hard for me to comment on other dishes because after trying the pizza for the first time, we kept coming back just for it 🍕 The service is phenomenal, very polite and helpful.
