As a Singaporean, let me ask a few questions, rather than write a review.
Why is the display slogan in the outlet missing "e"s? Is it because the products are also missing a few heads and tails? It seems so as you will see below.
Why is it that bean sprouts dont have a head or a tail? See the picture attached. The original establishment in Singapore does believe in giving the heads and tails, and not just a sorry torso. It is a sprout after all, ain't it? Also, why should it have crispy fish skin? See the picture attached
Please check the actual roasted chicken images from Singapore on Google. Why is the roasted chicken here more like some of the local Thai fried chicken - super dry, pale brown & not at all the form factor of the original one? And BTW what are those strange potato wafers doing there? Are we in a western fast food outlet?
The steamed chicken is rather obese as far as I can see, and has no coriander on top - the signature look of the original. Why is it so? See the picture.
In short, Boon Tong Kee is an iconic heartland Singapore brand and it should retain its authenticity to the last dot agnostic to whether it is Thailand or Timbuktu. (Hence please do not see this as someone being anal)
The above is something the Singapore principal entity should take care of religiously, as they open...
Read moreThis restaurant just opened, and there were too many people in line. The staff informed us that the wait would be around 30 minutes, but in reality, we waited nearly 50 minutes to get inside. The restaurant is very small, and dining inside felt extremely cramped and noisy, making it quite uncomfortable. We only received the dipping sauce halfway through our Hainanese chicken. When we ordered roast duck, the staff mentioned a 20-minute wait, but it actually took almost 50 minutes. I was so hungry that I started feeling hypoglycemic, and the narrow space made the experience even more unpleasant. The staff could only offer verbal apologies and couldn’t do much else. I understand that the staff had limited options, but I believe the owner should not overbook customers, as this approach only exhausts customer goodwill. Aside from the roast duck, the food was very average and definitely not worth the wait. I will not be returning to...
Read moreFood is delicious and as authentic as the original Singapore shop. In fact, the chicken tastes much better than those served in Singapore - much bigger and more tender. We have gone back a few times to try out the various dishes and none has been disappointing so far - everything was spot on! Fantastic!
Definitely recommend to have the original Singapore-style chilli dip with thick dark sauce to go with the chicken and chicken rice. By the way, the chicken is supposed to be served chilled and not warm as with the original recipe back in Singapore for Hainanese chicken rice. For those who find the meat "too cold", do understand that that's what a franchise brand should be going for - authentic original style of cooking to have such...
