Came here last night for dinner with colleagues to taste Northern Thailand dishes. It was recommended by Thai staff at the conference. The ambience gives you a Christmas feel for sure. But we are intrigued with the food. We ordered som tam platter which came with a variety of appetizers such as sausage, pickles, soft boiled eggs, pork crackling, and rice noodles. We also had herbed fried chicken since they ran out of gai yang; fried sea bass with tamarind sauce, duck lab salad, spicy beef tendon soup, and some sticky rice to pair with som tam. The staff are very pleasant and attentive to our orders, but language is a barrier when making specific requests (ie you need a translation app if you can't speak thai). They gave us corn salad with slices of raw salmon on top, which was okay. They also offered raw veggies as palate cleanser which was also appreciated. The food was tasty overall but nothing stood out for me, because I've had some similar in other restaurants that tasted way better. I would come back for the service but not really...
Read moreLoved this spot for all the delicious food you can get. It's a little out of the way from the main city area but loved the quaint spot. Ambience was great and seems like a cool little compound.
The food menu is pretty extensive and you can get everything Thai here - well most things I guess. We got lots of things to try from Papaya salad to a deep fried fish which was AMAZING. One of my favorite dishes was a flower crab salad which was raw. The crab meat was sweet and succulent and spiced so well in the salad. My friend got a shaved ice dessert that was super cool and tasted great. They also had some traditional desserts on the table packaged up for sale if we decided to eat it and of course we did! So good!
A great spot to go to for an amazing meal after you visit the temples...
Read moreSoLao is a Thai-Lao restaurant specializing in cuisine from the Isan region. The food deserves a 5-star rating based on the dishes we ordered: Bamboo shoot soup: The bamboo shoots were perfectly tender, and the soup was rich and flavorful. Fried pork neck: Soft, delicious, and seasoned just right. Stir-fried squid: Tasty, with squid that wasn’t chewy. Somtam Lao: Absolutely delicious and spicy, featuring raw crab legs mixed in. If you’re feeling adventurous and want to test your digestive system, go for it! I was a bit nervous at first, but I survived with no stomach issues.
