Amataros Sourdough Pizza — Restaurant in Chiang Mai Province

We had 4 dishes today! We ordered 4 cheese pizza, Bolognese fettuccine and lasagna first. Then we found out that the fettuccine was the best so we reordered a carbonara penne dish. As it turned out the last dish was the best dish. It came out surprisingly good. After reading the ingredient, it feels like a Japanese fusion dish which turned out to be really nice. The penne was cooked just right and the sauce was unique.

Fettuccine was homemade, we can tell. It was a bit too hard to our liking. We like the pasta andante but this is not because the way it was cooked but the way it was made. Actually, it tasted like my husband’s homemade fettuccine that he felt it was a failed attempt.

The sauce was good. Too bad it’s pork not beef or lamb. So it was not as fragrant as it is supposed to be.

The lasagna was a bit too sweet to my liking but I think it was good anyway.

The 4 cheese was kinda the most disappointing dish of all. We didn’t like the crispy crush. The cheeses were OK. We have had better though.

We finished the meal with the complementary coconut custard which was very unique both texture and taste. We were thinking about ordering one, but after 4 dishes, we had decided to opt out. But it was given to us for some reason.. anyway, that was a nice touch to the meal.

Amataros Sourdough Pizza is an absolute gem! As someone who appreciates authentic, artisanal pizza, I was blown away by their perfectly fermented sourdough crust – crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and packed with flavor.

Amataros is a rare 5-star across-the-board review for me, especially for a casual dining spot. I have seen the sign from the canal road, but the only time I tried to go there was a Thursday, and, as I found out, they are closed on Thursdays. Luckily, I went back for lunch on a Wed., and this time, I was not disappointed. The staff was very welcoming as we entered, and the service was friendly and attentive. The menu is extensive, but we decided to share the day's specials: a scallop ravioli and a burrata pizza. Both arrived very quickly, which is usually a bad sign. In this case, it was not a bad sign, as both were excellent. The ingredients were of high quality, and the portions were very generous for the price charged. The ravioli was especially lovely as it had several required daily food groups: scallops, bacon, and pasta! As mentioned in other reviews, this is a BYOB place, but they kindly offered us wine glasses and did not charge a corkage fee. Amataros is out of the way for me, but even so, I will add it to my restaurant rotation...
