We went for dinner without reservation, fortunately server helped to arrange a table at the room of the back side which is very exclusive and nicely decorated.
I have no ideas that it was a Michelin restaurant but the signage posted on the entrance really impressive.
We ordered the following, Watermelon cubes with crispy fried salmon floss, it's very common now in Chiangmai, salmon floss taste rich. Penang Curry, mildly spicy and with a hint of nutty flavor, however the chicken didn't taste much. Fried Mackerel with Nam Jim seafood , the fish fillet is fried to crisp, taste fresh but a little salty. Grilled Pork Neck with Nam Jim Jew, the most tender pork neck I've ever taste, the meat is very tender and slightly pink in color, thank you for server's recommendation.
They offered complimentary welcome canapes, which was a tiny meat ball on pineapple. Also complimentary dessert, gluey pandan coconut cream per guest. But I still ordered durian sticky rice which is too tempting. The medium soft durian laid on a bath of warm coconut milk and sticky rice which was a perfect finish of our dinner.
Servers were all very polite and attentive, you will not listen to anyone talking around you.
The whole restaurant full of collections of glasses and pottery wares and plated which are hand made. It's enjoyable for eating and appreciating those beautiful items.
Thank you for such a...
Read moreMy friends and I decided to visit this restaurant on our last night in Chiang Mai. We had been enjoying the local street food for the past few days, but we felt a bit tired of the bustle and wanted to have a more relaxed, refined meal. So I searched online and stumbled across this place.
Magnolia Cafe was an extremely suitable place for us. The Michelin ranking is well deserved, as both the restaurant’s staff and the decor make you feel very well taken care of. The food is excellent and reflects a healthy balance of creativity (watermelon cubes with salmon!) and authenticity. Everything we had was cooked to perfection, and the prices were extremely affordable. A restaurant of this stature and quality could easily charge more, and it would be well justified in doing so.
We even got complimentary canapés and desserts - totally unexpected and very well crafted. Do visit Cafe Magnolia if you have the chance, it will...
Read moreNot deserving of Michelin Bob Gourmand. Wonder what are the inspectors doing...Nice ambience and that is the only good thing about this place. (And maybe the complimentary appetizer with pineapple base and dessert.) We ordered Watermelon Cubes with Desiccated Salmon which is ok, Stir-fried "Chiang-Da" local Gurmar which is also ok but maybe with too much egg in it (More egg than vegetables), Stir-Fried Squid and Glass Noodles with Salted Egg (To me this dish is fatally wrong. Salted Egg yolk is in blocks and not stir fried in to mix well with the Glass Noodles and Squid.) and Red Curry with Roasted Duck which was ok but nothing extraordinary. Worse thing is, wine selection is extremely limited (and they have a wine shop that is closed during dinner hours?!) and only served by the bottle. Service is also...
