GORO Japanese Restaurant — Restaurant in Chiang Mai Province

As some others have noted this place is not an authentic Japanese restaurant, and combines different styles of Japanese food with some others e.g. you can order Kimchi here.

We came for the fresh O-Toro served at the end of the month. Generally speaking the fish was average, the O-Toro wasn't fatty enough - you couldn't see any fat in it, the salmon wasn't especially fresh, only the Akami was what I would consider to be good.

Maki was unevenly cut and two of the pieces were falling apart because they clearly don't know how to cut rolls so they stay together. Every slice of the maki was a different thickness with some being too thick to comfortably eat.

We initially sat on the second floor but had to move because of the strong smell of cat urine. The smell was still noticeable downstairs but nowhere near as strong.

2.5 stars I ordered potato croquette, karaage, oknomiyaki, and beef shabu. The food arrived pretty fast even though there were quite a lot of customers.

I would not recommend the shabu because it is definitely not worth the price. I paid 700 baht (largest size) for beef, vegetables, and tofu. The beef, although large, was not tender enough for the price. If you want beef shabu, I would recommend MK, because they have better tasting beef at a lower price. One piece of kaarage was undercooked, and was still red inside. The potato croquette and oknomiyaki were ok. Like everyone else said, the service is pretty awful. I came in for dinner tonight. I ordered three pieces of sushi and a spicy tuna roll. Everything was fine. The staff was very courteous, polite and helpful. The place seemed clean and had a generally good vibe. About a third of the way through the eating oddly gigantic spicy tuna roll I noticed a little bug crawling across the roll, I pointed this out to the waitress. She was very apologetic and even brought me a new roll, despite the fact I made every effort to communicate that I did not want any more of their food.
