While it's one of the only Mexican restaurants in Chiang Rai, I really really wanted to love this place. When I first walked in, I did love it .. There were loads of foreigners and good Mexican music in a single clean, bright dining area.
However the atmosphere is only a small portion of the experience at restaurant. Food and customer service are just as important.
We ordered flautas, tacos, chips and dip, and margaritas. Honestly, the only noteworthy food that we ate was the carnitas tacos which we got 2 of. The other 2 picadillo tacos weren't nearly as good. Even worse was the chicken flautas which, instead of filled with chicken, were filled with mashed potatoes. No mention of potatoes on the menu.
We brought this up to the owner's wife, and she didn't seem to care. No apology or offer to remake them. We let it slide.
But the thing that really upset me was the fact that my 2 successful attempts at the discount game didn't count. To clarify, there's a Mexican game that you can play and win a maximum of 10% off your bill. I won 2% off my bill as the 3 daughters of the owners' (who are very lovely) were watching me. The waitress then proceeds to inform me that because the bill was already printed, it doesn't count and it's not possible to reprint the bill. I bring this up to the owner and she said it's only a little bit of money anyway. Our bill was 918 baht, so that would've been 18 baht off or $0.50. She's right it's not a lot, but that's not the point. They did offer us a horchata drink as a substitute which was nice, but still.
I felt that this place has potential, but the customer service needs to improve. Otherwise there will be minimal...
Read moreEl sabor de México en Tailandia??? For sure, the average Anglo in CA, AZ, TX know the border foods which don’t really reflect the flavors of central and southern México. There was a place in the Bay Area whose owners were from Puebla. I used to frequent years ago. Their mole poblano, guajillo salsa and a broader range of their dishes were epic. Alas, over time, seemed to tweak flavors to what were known or “expected”. This place in Chiang Rai whose owner I think was more from the Mexico City area produces some great food. Have only been here 2x in 1.5 years but has been reproducibly quite solid! Pity COVID-19 has suppressed international travel and cut into customers who can readly visit the area! Thank you for the reminder that your from Chihuahua! The brain...
