[Updated 04/04/2023]: Went here for lunch to celebrate a special occasion. We got the Penne pasta with Salmon in a cream sauce, a Caesar salad, and Khao Mok Gai. Lots of coffee shop restaurants all over Thailand have this formula of modern glass with AC setting, yet almost none can have a flawless menu where everything is superb. The Wanderer does. Everything we ordered was cooked perfectly, taste balanced. My wife said "prices were high, but everything was yummy, worth it". That's the highest praise. Charging higher than normal prices for a sleek, modern restaurant is fine, if they are able to deliver above average tasting food. The Wanderer does that. Great service, nice atmosphere with a couple of cats wandering around. Highly recommend to anyone who wants breakfast or lunch with high quality food. 👍
[Previous review]: Great alternative to nearby chivit thamma da. Modern restaurant surrounded by nature. Great food, a little expensive, for splurging, similar to chivit thamma da. The iced cappuccino was made just as I requested it: wan nit diow (other places I ask, but they make too sweet anyway). The lazy cat's name is "Maanow" means lemon. Nice place for weekend brunch. Popular with local Thais and some Farangs. They even give you lemongrass spray for the mosquitos because they like the cool shade (tip: sit in the shade surrounded by sunshine and they won't be a bother). Overall,...
Read moreWe had an absolutely wonderful time at The Wanderer Cafe in Chiang Rai during our recent visit! Tucked away in a lush, forested area near the Kok River, this cafe feels like a hidden oasis. The setting is breathtaking, with sprawling gardens, towering trees, and charming outdoor seating areas that make you feel like you’re dining in a tropical paradise. The atmosphere is peaceful and perfect for unwinding, whether you’re sipping coffee or enjoying a meal. The coffee was a highlight—rich, aromatic, and clearly made with care. Prices are slightly higher (around 200-300 THB per person), but the quality and portion sizes make it well worth it. The staff were warm, attentive, and made us feel right at home, adding to the cozy vibe.
We loved wandering the grounds, discovering little nooks and photo-worthy spots. The cafe’s modern yet natural design blends perfectly with the greenery, creating a relaxing escape from the city. One tip: bring mosquito repellent, especially if you sit outside, as the lush setting can attract bugs. Visiting early in the morning was ideal to beat the heat and enjoy the serene ambiance. The Wanderer Cafe was a highlight of our Chiang Rai trip, and we’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for great food, coffee, and a...
Read moreThis is a delightful out-of-the-way place to go for a relaxing lunch or just something to drink. It is the new incarnation of the Doi Chang coffee shop that was closed at the corner of Thanon Baanpa Pragam and Phaholyothin Rd east of the clock tower. It sits on Mae Naam Kok just over the Klang Wiang Rd bridge and is hidden away on the west side so if you don't know it is there, you will never notice it. The food selection is small but satisfying and prices are reasonable. There are a number of places to sit both inside and outside, a little like Chewit Thamada but more of a jungle environment with lots of trees and...
