A Culinary Journey to Northern Thailand at Kim Khao Lam Nestled in the heart of [Katchanaburi], Kim Khao Lam offers an authentic and unforgettable experience for anyone craving the vibrant flavors of Northern Thai cuisine. From the moment you step inside, you're transported to the lush mountains and bustling markets of Chiang Mai, with the aroma of fragrant herbs and spices filling the air. A Taste of the North Northern Thai cuisine is a delightful departure from the more familiar central and southern Thai dishes. It's characterized by its bold flavors, influenced by neighboring countries like Laos and Myanmar. Think rich curries infused with coconut milk, tangy salads bursting with fresh herbs, and grilled meats marinated in aromatic spices. Kim Khao Lam masterfully captures the essence of this unique culinary tradition. Their menu is a treasure trove of Northern Thai specialties, each dish crafted with meticulous attention to detail and a deep respect for traditional recipes. Must-Try Dishes Khao Soi: This iconic dish is a must-try for any visitor. A creamy coconut curry noodle soup, it features tender chicken or beef, crispy egg noodles, and a medley of pickled mustard greens, shallots, and chili oil. Kim Khao Lam's version is simply divine, with a perfectly balanced broth and melt-in-your-mouth meat. Gaeng Hung Lay: This slow-cooked pork belly curry is a symphony of flavors. The pork is incredibly tender, having been simmered for hours in a rich blend of ginger, turmeric, and tamarind. It's a hearty and satisfying dish that will leave you wanting more. Larb Moo: This spicy minced pork salad is a refreshing explosion of flavors. The pork is tossed with lime juice, fish sauce, chili flakes, and a generous helping of fresh herbs like mint and cilantro. It's a perfect balance of spicy, sour, and savory. Sai Oua: These flavorful Northern Thai sausages are a true delicacy. Packed with herbs and spices like lemongrass, galangal, and kaffir lime leaves, they're grilled to perfection and served with a side of sticky rice. Nam Prik Ong: This flavorful tomato-based chili dip is a staple in Northern Thai cuisine. Served with a variety of fresh vegetables and crispy pork rinds, it's a delightful appetizer that showcases the region's love for fresh ingredients. Beyond the Food Kim Khao Lam's commitment to excellence extends beyond its mouthwatering cuisine. The restaurant's warm and inviting atmosphere, coupled with the friendly and attentive service, creates a truly memorable dining experience. The staff is always happy to explain the dishes and offer recommendations, ensuring that every guest feels welcome and well-cared for. A Culinary Gem Kim Khao Lam is more than just a restaurant; it's a culinary gem that offers a genuine taste of Northern Thailand. Whether you're a seasoned foodie or simply looking to explore new flavors, this restaurant is a must-visit. With its authentic cuisine, warm ambiance, and exceptional service, Kim Khao Lam is sure to leave a lasting impression on your taste buds and your heart. I visited 4 times and simply could not get enough of this...

Kin Khao Lam is a must-try when you are in Kanchanaburi! In fact, I would go as far to say that this restaurant is the best value-for-money restaurants in this city! Yes, there may be fancier restaurants (mainly at the many nice hotels in this city), but they’re much more expensive than this one. I can’t believe some of the prices on this menu!

This restaurant has traditional Northern Thailand cuisine, and they do a great job at it. Employees are very friendly, the atmosphere is great, food comes out fast, and food is of great quality. When we visited, we tried a spicy pork stir-fry dish, a seafood dish with garlic, and a chicken dish with eggs, bean sprouts, noodles, wonton chips, and more. We also got the famous Northern Thailand fermented pork with ginger! It may sound gross (especially to someone who isn’t familiar with fermented dishes), but it honestly was really good! It like a meatball that’s a tiny bit tangy - my first time trying it and I liked it (even better combined with some ginger). Even though we got 3 full-sized big meals for 2 people, as well as an appetizer and plenty of rice, the food came out to under $10 USD. In the middle of a touristy city, where everything is more expensive than surrounding areas, that would come out to maybe $3 max per person if you got a normal meal!

As you can see, definitely a great bargain, and it’s not cheap, boring food at all! For the price you’re paying, you get authentic Northern Thailand cuisine as good as anything you’d find in Chiang Mai, and it’s just awesome! I cannot recommend this place enough! If you’re only in Kanchanaburi one night and can only choose one place for dinner, this is the place I’d...

The most disappointing dining experience ever.

We came in around 12:15 with the ignorance from the staff. No table leading, no welcoming gesture. No staff was ready on the floor to provide service.

As I observed during half an hour sitting at the shop, all the new guests coming were treated the same. They had to find vacant tables to sit and waiting.

There was a female staff did the table cleaning (without mask) and no basic hospitality sense on her face (a smile, or even a look to notice the guests); and it was only 2.5 hours from the opening time (10am) so I wonder how the guests will be treated / welcomed till the end of the day (9pm)

Then a male staff approached and provided us menu. He took our order like a robot and we could feel how clumsy he was when we asked for less spicy tomyum.

The order was taken but not directly sent to kitchen for preparing. He held the order paper & kept taking orders from other tables.

We ordered 4 dishes and 2 coke, but after 30 mins, neither food nor drink was served.

There were 2 guests left after an hour waiting for food. We then came to check whether our order was prepared and being answered “not yet”. We eventually decided to leave too.

One restaurant cannot fully be rated good or bad based on the food they served since everyone has different taste, but the service provided in a restaurant can tell whether you, the owner cares for your guests & doing the business with your...
