Read moreKin Khao Lam is a must-try when you are in Kanchanaburi! In fact, I would go as far to say that this restaurant is the best value-for-money restaurants in this city! Yes, there may be fancier restaurants (mainly at the many nice hotels in this city), but they’re much more expensive than this one. I can’t believe some of the prices on this menu!
This restaurant has traditional Northern Thailand cuisine, and they do a great job at it. Employees are very friendly, the atmosphere is great, food comes out fast, and food is of great quality. When we visited, we tried a spicy pork stir-fry dish, a seafood dish with garlic, and a chicken dish with eggs, bean sprouts, noodles, wonton chips, and more. We also got the famous Northern Thailand fermented pork with ginger! It may sound gross (especially to someone who isn’t familiar with fermented dishes), but it honestly was really good! It like a meatball that’s a tiny bit tangy - my first time trying it and I liked it (even better combined with some ginger). Even though we got 3 full-sized big meals for 2 people, as well as an appetizer and plenty of rice, the food came out to under $10 USD. In the middle of a touristy city, where everything is more expensive than surrounding areas, that would come out to maybe $3 max per person if you got a normal meal!
As you can see, definitely a great bargain, and it’s not cheap, boring food at all! For the price you’re paying, you get authentic Northern Thailand cuisine as good as anything you’d find in Chiang Mai, and it’s just awesome! I cannot recommend this place enough! If you’re only in Kanchanaburi one night and can only choose one place for dinner, this is the place I’d...
Read moreThe most disappointing dining experience ever.
We came in around 12:15 with the ignorance from the staff. No table leading, no welcoming gesture. No staff was ready on the floor to provide service.
As I observed during half an hour sitting at the shop, all the new guests coming were treated the same. They had to find vacant tables to sit and waiting.
There was a female staff did the table cleaning (without mask) and no basic hospitality sense on her face (a smile, or even a look to notice the guests); and it was only 2.5 hours from the opening time (10am) so I wonder how the guests will be treated / welcomed till the end of the day (9pm)
Then a male staff approached and provided us menu. He took our order like a robot and we could feel how clumsy he was when we asked for less spicy tomyum.
The order was taken but not directly sent to kitchen for preparing. He held the order paper & kept taking orders from other tables.
We ordered 4 dishes and 2 coke, but after 30 mins, neither food nor drink was served.
There were 2 guests left after an hour waiting for food. We then came to check whether our order was prepared and being answered “not yet”. We eventually decided to leave too.
One restaurant cannot fully be rated good or bad based on the food they served since everyone has different taste, but the service provided in a restaurant can tell whether you, the owner cares for your guests & doing the business with your...
