If you’re searching for the ultimate Khao Kha Moo (braised pork leg) experience in Phuket, Kha Moo Boran in Kathu is an unmissable culinary destination. This humble local gem has been serving its signature dish since 2000, and the proof of its excellence is proudly displayed on the wall—five consecutive years of Michelin Guide recognition from 2020 to 2024.
The pork leg here is stewed to absolute perfection: fall-off-the-bone tender, deeply flavorful, and infused with rich aromatic spices that linger on the palate. The broth is well-balanced—neither too salty nor too sweet—and complements the soft rice and pickled greens impeccably. You can also order it with crispy pork for a contrast in texture, or pair it with soft-boiled eggs and mustard greens for a complete, comforting meal.
The setting is simple and local, but that’s part of its charm. What you get is an authentic Thai street food experience elevated by exceptional technique and consistency. The chef’s focus and precision as he carves each piece in front of you is a testament to their dedication.
Prices are very reasonable, portions are generous, and the hospitality is warm and welcoming. Whether you’re a foodie chasing Michelin-listed spots or just someone craving an honest, soulful Thai meal, Kha Moo Boran is a must-visit.
Tip: Come early to beat the crowd and make sure you try the pork with the collagen-rich skin—it’s a delicacy.

Read moreEat here! Don’t miss out on some of the best Thai food on the island. I highly recommend the Spicy noodle soup with Stewed pork, all versions of their Khao soi (especially with the braised pork), and the Stewed pork leg with rice. The latter comes with a bone broth of the stewing sauces that is out of this world.
The food is all delicious, their specialties is pork, with stewed pork, crispy red pork, and BBQ available to accompany multiple dishes. The stewed pork is a particular favourite as it is both succulent and will melt-in-your mouth.
Ka Moo Boran may look unassuming from the outside but the it’s home to some of the best Thai food I have eaten, an all for around ฿80 per dish. They hold multiple awards from the Michelin guide that they proudly display in the walls and it’s easy to see why.
The service is friendly and welcoming and the food always arrives incredibly quickly. After discovering this place I had lunch here almost...
Read moreThe rice was not super chicken-y but still complex tasting. I suspect because of some spices. The Chicken itself was just okay. Not too amazing. It was just a smidge overcooked. Broth was warm tasting with a hint of sweetness. The liver was really good! My favorite bite was piece of liver with a small piece of garlic and maybe a drop of one of the chili sauces.
Stewed meat was fatty and really rich with the right amount of spices to cut through the fat. Pickled mustard greens also balance the fattyness. I just wish there was a bit more of the picked greens on the plate.
Overall, a really good meal. Did have a food coma...
