Shades of Retro — Restaurant in Khlong Tan Nuea Subdistrict

Despite my better judgement, i can't stop myself walking down dark alleys out of curiosity; so glad i walked down this one and found Shades! Was on my way somewhere else, but they were bumpin' Pharcyde, Mos Def, and Quest; i knew i wasn't walking past twice without at least a little look/see and a sip. Apparently the genre roster changes each night but leans on the retro tip (duh!). The staff are total legends, the atmosphere is intimate and eclectic, and the tunes were 🔥! If they regularly have the same quality of clientele as last night, they're very lucky - i stepped in alone, stayed until lights out, and left thinking - if i haven't found my new family, i've at least met a fist full of legends! 👊✌️ The cocktails are generous and caringly crafted, and..., i dunno; If you're a reasonably chill person, just go - you'll see what i mean. I'm kinda the socially anxious type and I was made to feel welcome immediately, it's not exclusive or cliquey at all. I do like the bar, it's style and how easy you can hang out in there. It is not too loud to have a conversation, not quiet though. The beer selection is not bad, but drinks in general not cheap. The location is expensive but this bar is a bit over its head with the price level. Service is also a bit of a downer, I had to wait for a burger for over 90 minutes and remind them two times. That's hardly acceptable. The burger itself as well as the special seasoned fries are pretty decent. But for the price level of a five star hotel (and even higher in some parts) you might expect that. Overall a cool place to waste a Friday night with friends and a few beers... I wanted to try a cocktail from this bar. I was with my boyfriend, who doesn’t drink alcohol at all. Once, a girl (a waitress?) came over, brought us the menu, and said that if we decided on something, we could let her know. Then she sat at the next table to chat with her friends. After I have ordered a cocktail, we wait for ~ ten minutes. A man from behind the bar came over and asked, "Did you order just one cocktail?"
