Booked two rooms at the charming Grande Centre Point Sukhumvit for family, one larger for their family of 3 and the other smaller for one.
The location is wonderful, very close to Thonglor, great restaurants and convenient stores, all accessible within minutes of walking.
The hotel is located at a corner, and appears smaller for a five star rated one, but has a grand art decoesque lobby with Great Gatsby vibes and is very clean both in the public and private areas. It looks like it has been renovated within recent years. It also has a full array of amenities, including a sizeable “rooftop” outdoor pool overlooking the city, a well equipped gym with views out to the pool and city, a family room for children and families to play in, as well as a world class Japanese style spa.
In fact, their spa may be more well known than their hotel! Relax Spa offers a well priced array of massages, scrubs, wraps, sauna, and onsen. There are not words for how amazing their onsen is! Firstly, it is simply just beautiful, with modern design and high tech equipment, yet traditional wood as material for comfort and grounding.
Then, there is the dedication to quality in every aspect of their operations. Not only is the service outstanding with warm greetings from the staff and managers alike, but also in terms of massage services, their masseuses are well trained and professional. I tried both the 60min Thai massage and the 60min foot massage. I love that the first thing they do is soak and wash your feet in a warm bath for you. For the Thai massage, they were firm yet controlled with their strength and able to get a few cracks out of my tired back. For the foot massage, I got to lie back on a thickly padded leather chair, while the skilled masseuse worked at my weary shins and feet with great meticulousness, while applying both hot and cold compresses in between. So amazing!
And that’s just the massage. The onsen will blow you away!! There are 5 different types of baths you can soak in — soda, whirlpool, silk, gero, and cold. And there is a sizable steam sauna and dry sauna. You can choose from 3 different “paths” of onsen therapy: beauty, relaxation, and health. While there many steps to each path, you can always refer back to the wall chart in between dips to remind yourself what to do next. The onsen section is extremely well designed, allowing guest to check in with an electronic waterproof wristband that also acts as the locker key. Genius. While the male and female baths are separated, there is a relaxation room for you to meet the other gender while cooling off, although you should remain quiet.
For most packages, they offer a small mango and sticky rice dessert after the massage and before the onsen. I also love their refreshing pandan water that helps detoxify your body and rehydrates you further after a massage.
Now back to the hotel experience. At check in, we had to request for an extra bed to be set up for the child in the larger room, but the original bed would’ve been big enough for three even without. I love that the room was a corner suite overlooking the city; really a great deal for the price. Both the large and smaller rooms came with bathrooms that had a bathtub in the shower, which many modern hotels lack these days so we were fairly impressed.
If you get breakfast with your booking, the continental buffet is also quite a good deal, especially bench it’s offered in the ornately designed restaurant on the ground floor—although the kid complained about the ice cream being off, tasting like durian instead of vanilla.
Overall, this five star hotel was really impressive and made us feel like we got a great deal...
Read moreThis is our second hotel in bangkok within 2 weeks. The first one was a 4 star hotel in Sukhumvit and their service and hospitality were more personable and respectful. The three interactions I had with the front desk at Grande Centre Point were lackluster. They didn’t smile or make us feel welcomed. Their body language and service were cold. Upon arrival before my check in date to leave my suitcases, I approached someone from the front desk to let them know I have a reservation in 3 days and would like to store my luggage. I’m not sure if she didn’t hear me or didn’t understand me, but she responded that the spa is on the 5th floor. At check in, the process was very bland, but she smiled after handing us the keys which made it feel fake and empty. *I also inquired about the possibility of extending my stay to see if there were any better rates she could offer. She responded “book on our website” - I come to find out 2 days later from the elevator ads that there’s a discount for extended stays. I ended up booking through a third party for a lower rate since the hotel themselves seem to have no interest in a direct booking. The day before check out to change rooms, I stopped by front desk to make sure they have the reservation and to clarify check out and check in procedures. There were some discrepancies in the room preferences that I needed changed, but the front desk worker kind of did it in a roundabout way when he knew exactly what I was asking for the room (king, nonsmoking). Whatever though, he was able to make the adjustments for me and also clarified that check out is at 12pm and check in for the next room is at 2pm. —The day of check out, front desk calls at 9:30am to ask what time we want to check in to the next room because it is ready. Then called again at 11am to ask if we were ready to change rooms. Whether they meant to rush us or not, that is how it felt. Anyway, we left the room right before 12pm and left some food items in the fridge that we didn’t want to take with us. We were out the entire day and came back to find a bag with the food items we left in the old room’s fridge in our new room. Our do not disturb sign was on and we were not in the room. I’m from U.S. and I’m not sure how they do it internationally or if it’s just here, but no one should be allowed to enter the guests room unless the guest requested for something. The complaints here aren’t a big deal and it might seem dramatic, but it’s just that this is supposed to be a 5 star hotel so these things baffle me. *Housekeeping phone operator/supervisor has a language barrier which is understandable, but everytime I’m trying to request for items, they hang up on me after I tell them 1 item when I have multiple things to request for. *Majority of the time: when walking through the lobby, out of the 7 workers just standing about, no one greets or smiles at you. The hotel itself is good - from the lobby area / refreshments, all their facilities, the elevator efficiency, the rooms, and bathrooms. It’s just disappointing when the service is not as hospitable than you expected it to be/less hospitable from the last hotel you stayed in with a lower ranking. *This hotel was the first one we really liked and really wanted to stay here. We only stayed at the other one first because of location which makes it even more disappointing. There are a few other issues we’ve experienced so those are just the some of the letdowns out of the many. I would say I wouldn’t recommend this hotel or come back to stay here...
Read moreThe Pros : Beautiful property that is very well maintained despite it hitting the 10-yr mark soon.
FO staff who checked us in were polite but you do not feel the warmth
Room sizes were decent, beddings and furniture were clean
Automatic toilet (American Standard)
Breakfast was a good selection of Thai, Western, Japanese and Chinese. The hotel made an effort to have different hot dishes served each day, quality and taste of the food was good.
Complimentary drinks station at the lobby serving ice cold water, another cold drink (chrysanthemum or lemon tea) and a coffee machine dispensing hot drinks including hot chocolate
Concierge were friendly and helpful
Housekeeping staff were efficient and did their job well
Complimentary tuk-tuk was helpful, runs every 20 mins to and fro Thonglor BTS station
Lots of eateries around, especially Japanese restaurants and izakayas
Lots of massage shops along the main road
Supermarket and 24-hr Burger King nearby
The cons : Location not the best, and traffic to Sukhumvit is generally bad, but the surrounding was pleasant
Bathrooms could do with ventilation fans as it gets stuffy
Toilet paper definitely needs to be changed, they were thinner than my oil blotters, and you end up having to use alot in order not to tear the paper
Not sure if the hotel is saving cost or being environmentally friendly, but one small tube of shower gel and shampoo per day sure ain't enough for 2 grown adults, not to mention those who shower more than once a day due to the hot weather in BKK
We tried the Let's Relax massage on the 5th floor, maybe we were the last batch of customers, 4 of us unanimously agreed that the masseuses were one of the most disappointing ones we have experienced in my 25 years of travelling to Thailand (though this is no fault of the hotel)
Ordered room service for 2 nights. On the first night, I ordered 'boiled rice soup with pork'. Spicy basil pork with rice was sent instead. I called the Room Service line and told them that they have sent me a wrong item, the lady insisted that I ordered the spicy basil pork, but 'It is ok, I will replace the item for you'. It was past 10pm when I ordered room service, I was quite sure I was craving for boiled rice soup and had not ordered spicy basil pork. I appreciate the 'kind gesture' to replace the item, but I to insist that I was the one who ordered the wrong item ... hmmm
My booking has a guaranteed late check-out at 2pm, but when I asked the FO, they said it was not so. Only upon further probing and checking did they confirm that we are indeed able to check out at 2pm. As we have a late flight and I have arranged for a driver to pick us at 3pm, I requested to check out at 2.30pm. That was accorded rather reluctantly. Then, at 2pm, we received a call in the room asking if we wee ready to check out. When I said 'No, not ready', the FO staff 'reminded' me that our original check out time was supposed to be 2pm, but it has already been kindly extended to 2.30pm. That was a lousy ending to an otherwise marvelous stay. If you had agreed to extend the check out time, then it is not nice to call and rush us, and to 'remind' us that it was already a favour by extending it for half an hour.
I would stay there again, but hope the above can be...
