We started off hopeful—spring rolls and Thai fish cakes were the first to arrive, and they were actually quite good. Crispy, flavorful, and a nice introduction to the meal. We also ordered a papaya salad, which in hindsight, we wish we hadn’t touched after what came next.
But here’s where things went downhill: it took an hour and a half before any food arrived. By that point, we were already losing confidence—and unfortunately, the mains didn’t help.
The Pad Thai lacked any real flavor and felt like it was just going through the motions. To make matters worse, when we went to sprinkle peanuts over the dish, we discovered several tiny ants crawling around in the peanut cup. We’re quite certain they came with the cup, not from the table. Needless to say, that completely ruined any remaining appetite.
My Panang curry came in a disappointingly small portion and had an odd, slightly off taste. The rice served with it was dry and rubbery, as if it had been reheated in a microwave after sitting out for too long.
By the time the mains hit the table, we didn’t feel comfortable eating them. We paid for what we ordered and politely left.
While the family-style atmosphere is cozy in theory—and the quirky touch of the restroom being the house’s actual bathroom adds some local charm—it’s not enough to compensate for the long wait, questionable hygiene, and lack of flavor.
Overall, I would not recommend eating here. There are plenty of other spots nearby that serve delicious, fresh food without the...
Read moreWe went to this restaurant with high hopes and the meal started well. The gentlemen doing the service gave us a plate of fresh fruit while we waited for the food.
We first had a delicious glass noodle and chicken salad which was very tasty, fresh and perfectly spicy.
So we though we were in for a feast, but then we had some absolutely bland mains to follow this great start.
First a Thai noodle dish similar to Pad Thai, but with bigger noddles (can’t remember the name). It was so bland that we had to resort to adding lots of table salt and sauces to make something out of it.
And finally, the classic green beef curry which tasted like it came straight out of the freezer and got reheated. Without a doubt, the very worst dish served in Thailand after 2 weeks of traveling and eating delicious food.
Bad night? Chef gone for the week? I don’t know, but we will not be going back. Too bad, it really seems like a very nice family is running the place and the restaurant looks really nice. Prices are very affordable too, but I would have gladly paid more for...
Read moreIf you’re looking for real and authentic Thai food then look no further than Nong Pheat kitchen. This family-run restaurant is as good as it gets in Ko Lanta. We stayed next door to this restaurant and eat here multiple times. Highly recommend sweet and sour fish, Yam woon sen and Tom kha coconut soup with chicken. The family are super friendly and will for sure leave a lasting impression on you. Delicious food at an unbelievable price. 5+++...
