The Glass House – A Disappointing Decline
I’m genuinely sad to be writing this because I used to love The Glass House. It was a cafe I fondly associated with my trips to Koh Lanta. Unfortunately, my recent visit was nothing short of awful, and I won’t be returning.
I waited 60 minutes for two simple dishes that never even arrived. Drinks—a basic espresso and a mango shake—took 30 minutes to reach the table. Meanwhile, I watched two other customers who arrived after me get served, eat, and leave.
To make matters worse, the waitress came to me 20 minutes in to ask, "Have you ordered yet?" (I had.) Then, at the 45-minute mark, she came back to clarify if I’d ordered pork or chicken with my dish. By the hour mark, I had lost all patience, decided to give up on the food, and went to pay for my drinks.
When I voiced my frustration, the waiter—who I assume is the boss—offered the excuse of being understaffed. If that’s the case, why wasn’t I informed of the long wait from the start? And how could other customers receive their meals and leave while I sat there waiting?
This experience was beyond disappointing. What used to be a cherished spot now feels like a poorly managed operation. Sadly, I’ll be taking my money elsewhere...
Read moreI hate giving negative reviews and I wanted to like it here as I work remotely and on appreances it was a really nice vibe. Unfortunately I was greeted with no more than a huff when I went in to the bar. The waiter who served me for my short stay didn't want to even give me eye contact the entire time. The wifi isn't good at all, maybe 25Mbps. It is outdated and my laptop refused to connect as the security was too bad. I just about managed to get connected with my ipad. I asked for assistance and my waiter helped for a second but then simpley said "too many people online" and walked away. To top it off it cost 120baht for an iced coffee, which I had to drink quickly as I needed to find another spot for my work day. To be fair it was a nice coffee, but not 120bht good.
Lots of other great cafes with lovely staff and extremely good wifi - Oaisis Cafe along with Sand Sea and Soul are great options for the north of the island, I would...
Read moreI was beyond impressed with this dainty, ultra modern sleek coffee shop/ restaurant. From the moment you step foot into it, not a detail has been missed, from a Khoi pond to milk alternatives. Seems guaranteed to be a hot spot.
We went there Saturday morning 9:20, but the barista wasn’t in yet, so we left as we wanted to pop in for a coffee, we went back the next day & I can honestly say it was the best coffee I’ve had on the island. We were not disappointed, from perfectly roasted beans to warm frothy milk to an actual hot cappuccino- I find the coffee is normally served luke warm at most places.
I had avo toast, with humus (however this seemed to have been omitted from the plate), tomatoes and peppers and it was delicious. Prices are however on the steep side, as I think paying 30baht for Oat milk on top of the 90baht a cup seems bit excessive.
But overall, a pleasant experience and I would definitely...
