Aree Ba Ba — Restaurant in Krabi Province

On my 1st stroll I was not so interested with the place since it's a bit run down thus at the 1st night at Krabi I skipped this. Only after I am longing for a good authentic northern Thai food the day after, then I saw this place is showing sign of authentic Isaan food. When visiting the place and reviewing the menu, then I notice their live sea food collection and various method of cooking, including the grilling with crusted salt. End up spending 1400 THB for 6 pax with a very high sense of satisfaction on umami. Service may not be top notch and the photo in the menu could be more appetizing and less confusing for non Thai people. However the owner family gave a good hints on what is nice to order. This is THE place to eat in the area. The lovely owner cooks Thai dishes TO DIE FOR and prices are low. Everything is made entirely from scratch, from the sauces to the chili paste, the deep fried onion used as a garnish, etc. and using the freshest local ingredients. She takes her time to craft her dishes to perfection so they burst with flavor, so don't expect fast service, but I can assure you it is worth the wait!! We've tried several places nearby but kept coming back to Aree throughout our stay, for a reason. Try the fried fish in tamarind sauce, it's so good you'll eat every last bit on the plate. LOVE...

Rustique Thai/Isaan restaurant on Nopparat beach, across the road from the huge sea-shell sculpture. Furniture very basic and tired, tin roof, meaning very hot during the day when a fan is a must. Service was polite and good but the staff is not smiling. Food was ok and reasonably priced. Many flies around, so some concerns about this place's hygiene.
