Apple Tree Cafe — Restaurant in Mai Khao

REMOTE WORKERS / DIGITAL NOMADS - YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE.

I’ve had s very unpleasant experience in this cafe. It had great reviews and looked like a nice place to chill & work for a couple of hours. I work online and in the last few years have been in hundreds of such cafes. Especially post-2020, it’s quite common everywhere now.

So let’s start with basic stuff - salmon wrap was not worth it. Khao Soi was fine. Iced coffee was great. Superfast WIFI. Staff was friendly.

Anyways, after finishing my food, I have been sitting there & working for a couple of hours(was charging my stuff while working).

It wasn’t a super busy day - most of the time there were free tables.

Suddenly, the owner comes and with a super cute smile tells me “I will have to charge you for charging your stuff. 50 baht”.

Bear in mind, electricity costs for using a 35W laptop charger for a few hours are like 3 baht.

I didn’t argue but I was very unpleasantly surprised. After working in hundreds of cafes over the years it is something that was really unexpected, especially in Thailand.

Now, as a business owner myself, I understand that it’s not really fair when the guy buys a 30 baht espresso and sits there for a few hours & charging his stuff.

But this was not the case: I’ve ordered 2 hot meals and their most expensive coffee. I think everyone will agree that 270 baht for one person is a reasonable bill in Thailand.

Anyway, got charged 50 more which is way to much and simply not fair. And it’s not about the money, it’s about the terrible customer experience. Of course, I did not come back the next day and not planning to.

This family-run place is amazing! There is a such a sumptuous variety of drinks & food on the menu, it's hard to choose! We were a group of 7 people, and the verdict among us was unanimous - this is hands down one of the best cafes in Phuket! Not only are the prices very reasonable, but the staff are so attentive, warm & friendly. And they got all of our orders correct first time. Incredible!

Furthermore, the food is just sublime.. I had the Red curry Roti and I'm not kidding - it was the best-tasting Roti I have ever had in my life! Absolutely perfect! My Mocha frappe likewise - was so delectable, as if delivered straight from heaven to the table!

Some of the other dishes sampled by my friends were: Scrambled Egg on Toasted Baguette, Curry-filled Roti, Khao Soi, Avocado-Peach-Kale smoothie - all of it made with such love & care & beautifully presented too.

The owner was very kind and welcoming, I wanted to give her a big hug at the end because they took care of us so well and the food was so delicious.

This coffee shop is great, lovely vibe inside with a range of different furniture.

Ordered the smoked salmon bagel which was delicious - can’t comment on prices because this is the first meal I’m having in Thailand so idk what’s good yet

The smoothie was so good. Reminded me of the banana smoothies I used to make at home.
