According to FAO statistics for 2013, coffee production was 50,000 tons grown on 51,000 hectares. Yield was 980 kilograms per hectare, which placed it at 18th in the world rankings. In 2015, two types of coffee, Doi Tung and Doi Chang, received protected designation of origin (PDO) status from the European Union. The designation is comparable to those bestowed on "Champagne", "Parma ham", or "Bordeaux".

Coffee drinking is very popular in Thailand now. Already in 2002 Café Amazon was founded by the PTT (Public) Company Limited to enhance marketing competency of PTT gas stations.

CAFÉ AMAZON is located at ground level of the BiG C Extra building near the food park. The interior is very stylish and replicates a Brazilian rain forest. The quality of the coffee is very good.

Ordered a hot cappuccino. Gentleman before me got his order and 10 minutes later I asked on mine to which I was told '20 minutes, many orders'. Waited for 2 minutes then mine was ready. This is the 2nd time I have waited over 10 minutes for a simple hot drink that should take 30 seconds out of the espresso machine. No...

They tell me i would have to wait 30 minutes because they have 20 orders, presumably these were orders for delivery as the shop was almost empty. Even if this was true, it would be reasonable for the stuff to adapt the workflow and make an espresso for an inhouse...
