Well let me start by saying that Mars ( the person ) is very well known in these parts and pretty much is an institution for the area. The bar he had for many.. many years albeit successful as hell has gone by the wayside by personal design. Mars was looking beyond the decade (or maybe more) of bar life, yet he could not completely sever the long ties with the local community. Imagine 10+ years of successful bar life...OMG tiring, especially if you are the main attraction....and he was. Well now things have dialed down. No longer having to think about partying until your guests leave at "Something O clock" in the morning and now it's become about relaxed lifestyle .
Anyway, the hours have changed from near 24/7 to a healthy normal work day without the super late nights however, the atmosphere remains the same. Yes a lot of the alcohol is swapped out for delicious, healthy fruit and veg juices but the great food ( breakfast to closing ) remains a big draw for those who knew and loved Mars bar comfort foods from home. Thank God this is still rolling! Oh and by the way.. if you need a beer or something like that .. don't think too much. Juice from Mars remains part of the Mars bar legacy and is a great place to conneiect with friends or make new friends as it is well known among local expats and visitors around the world. Great place, great juice, great food, great all the way around. A must visit...
Read moreTucked away in a touristy area near Khao Lak Beach lies this funky-looking English style smoothie and sandwich shop. Don’t let the rather tacky space themed house style fool you, because this place knows how to make good food.
All of the sandwiches, baguettes and smoothies are made with premium quality fresh ingredients, and you can taste that; great distinguishable flavours form a very balanced and tasty experience. Especially the home baked baguettes they use are lovely. As for portion size: I was barely able to finish my baguette and I’m a big eater.
The smoothies are actually made with yoghurt (as they should be), which is a nice change from the sugar bombs you usually get in Thailand. My wife had the fruit bowl which was very good as well.
One ‘negative’ point: their iced coffee is the worst I had in Thailand, but it’s not their core business.
Overall a great place and I’m sad I only got to eat one...
Read moreFirst 3 days in Khao Lak I went here every day. Like, I was a little addicted to the smoothies and fresh juices. My favorite is the beet juice one - The Hangover Detox? Was that the name of that concoction? Anyway…
I had the breakfast one of the days. Decent. British. It hits the spot if that’s what you’re looking for. I’d order it again.
I hear good things about the sandwiches. I want to try one of those.
The staff is delightful. And Mars, the owner, he’s tres cool. Loved talking to him. The place reflects his personality, which is down-to-earth, kind, a little far out, and very sincere. I recommend. In fact, writing this review has got me dreaming of one of their smoothies. Gonna head there right now! (Oh, and they have a bunch of books and novels in English if you’re...
