I visited Yellow Lane for the first time a few weeks back when the Bangkok weather was nice and cool, an ideal time for casual outdoor dining.
Yellow Lane is located relatively deep in the alleyways of the Ari district, with BTS Sanam Pao being the closest stop. The restaurant has some parking in front, but it's a first-come, first-served setting, so parking is VERY limited. With their most recent expansion, there are even fewer parking spaces available. Additionally, the building itself houses multiple other businesses, including an onsen/ice bath. Thus, come early if you want a front parking space, or it's easy enough to get a motorbike taxi in.
On the day I visited, the atmosphere was perfect—nice and cool—so I chose to sit outside by the garden. Yellow Lane also had some casual music playing in the background, creating a very relaxing environment. The staff was extremely friendly, spoke great English, and was knowledgeable about the diverse menu offerings, without feeling 'pushy.'
Regarding the food, Yellow Lane has an extensive selection of vibrant and fresh menus, from a variety of sandwiches, fruit bowls, and eggs to their diverse selection of fresh smoothies and drinks. I decided to try the pulled pork sandwich, which was flavorful and well-balanced, in addition to the Acai bowl, which was packed to the brim with fresh fruits and granola—a true delight to eat. I also tried a selection of their fruit smoothies, which were refreshing and not overly sweet.
Overall, it was a great first experience at Yellow Lane, and I will certainly visit them again in the future to try the other food menu...
Read moreI've been coming to Yellow Lane for years and I love the food, the atmosphere and the beautiful garden. Today, however, was a real disappointment. 3 of us ordered three meals (1 eggs benedict, 1 acai bowl and 1 granola). My eggs benedict, a hot dish, was served first, with the granola bowl served second 10 minutes later. At this point, we had to start eating, because my food was getting cold. After literally half an hour, and one reminder to the staff, the acai bowl was served with no apology. After I pressed the staff, they came up with "we were out of ingredients"... So why not say that? Or take the dish off the menu? It was not particularly busy, but there were a few tables outside enjoying the lovely weather. I overheard many of them discussing similar issues at their own table.
While leaving, I thought I'd ask the manager, but there was no manager. Another staff member just said "sorry" and that was it. No explanation, no food comped, and they just didn't seem to understand why it's a problem that people are not served their food at the same time. I'm not talking about 5 minutes, but half an hour. The food was great by the way, so they still get 3 stars, but why isn't the staff trained better? This experience spoiled what was supposed to be a nice brunch with visitors.
UPDATE - changed to four stars for their excellent customer service (see their reply below). The voucher was delivered and honored without any issues....
Read moreThis place is actually a joke. You need to scan and order with your phone at the table. There is a service charge when they don’t even take your order… to make things even more ridiculous, you can’t pay with cash! They try to lure you into sit at the table, do your own service to submit the order with your phone, and then sneak on a service charge! Ah and no cash by the way! Makes me want to throw up the tricks this place tries to pull for just trying to go to a cafe.
Edit: In response to the delusional owner that replied to this review: having the option to take an order from a customer is mandatory for any respectable business serving food/drink. The server today clearly was not trained on how to take an order and did not want to offer, even after it was clear we did not want to use phone. This is not the servers fault cause she was clearly not trained to take orders. Also, it should go without saying cash is a basic requirement for any business to accept. I don’t think I ever been to or complained about cafe that doesn’t take cash. The only one benefitting from these policies are the owners that are saving costs, at the expense of the customer. Don’t make me look like the crazy one, with your prices you should provide the basic requirements in this expensive cafe (with a service charge tacked on!). Oh wait, you won’t cause that requires you to hire and train more staff, something a cafe owner should not have...
